Windscreen washers.

Unread post by sponix »

The windscreen washers on the Bling are playing up..
When you operate them you can hear the motor buzzing away but there is a delay of some 15 seconds before the water comes out of the jets.
If you operate the washers soon afterwards they work fine...if you leave them a few hours then there is that 15 second delay.
The rear washer works fine.
It's almost as if the water is draining from the pipes back into the reservoir.
Before I take it all apart does anyone know if there are any non return valve(s) in the system anywhere? If so, are they in the pump or the jets themselves?

Don't know if there's a non-return valve fitted, but they are available from accessory shops very cheaply. Personally, I'd just fit one anyway (OK, so I'm a bodger[:D]).

I'm a bodger too! Why waste time and money doing something properly when you can bodge it and spend the time saved in the pub??!

You may have a leaking junction which empties the tubing after a time. Check at the pump end. Newpaper round it for a day: if it gets wet you have found the problem ?

Bought non return valve, fitted non return valve, scratched paintwork, kicked cat, problem gone away.
(Either the system already has a non return valve that has failed or there's a slight leak in the pipe, north of where I fitted the new valve.)
