It is, pretty colourful and cheerful and quite toxic according to wiki :-D
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eranthis_hyemalis
All parts of the plant are poisonous when consumed by humans and other mammals, because it contains cardiac glycosides similar to those present in Adonis vernalis. Glycosides of this type stimulate the heart when administered in small doses, but in very large doses may cause serious, often irreparable heart damage. Poisoning symptoms include colicky abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, disturbed vision, dyspnea, bradycardia and, in severe cases, cardiac arrest. Specific cardiac glycosides present in E.hyemalis include Eranthin A and B, belonging to the bufadienolide group, also found in (and named for) the toad venom bufotoxin.

I grow large poppies, including opium poppies as it happens, and a neighbour saw them and said when he lived further up the road, on the main drag, the police had rolled up and confiscated all their poppies, of the same variety and also the aconitum they had.

His wife had planted them and he knew very little about flowers despite teaching something about trees at Sunderland University.

Must add some to my poison garden. Have deadly nightshade and foxgloves to put in soon.

It would appear to be a little bit daft of the police to confiscate his opium poppies (Papaver somniferum) as - not only are they a widely grown ornamental - I think you'd need to grow quite a few to <ahem> get anywhere with them

Indeed, something of an overreaction. Mine are not visible from the street and there are a lot of them, not just the opium ones though.
Collecting the seed heads the sap that seeps out is what opium is made from and as you say, there is very little of it in an individual plant.

It was! I drove home last night in absolutely biblical torrential rain... It started as I departed and remained so for the entire 120 miles...

I did not appreciate just how much it had rained up here until I saw our River Lovat this morning during my run.

Very muddy and right up to the top of the banks. Within an inch of flooding the meadow...

The ducks liked it :D

I know I'm no oil painting. When somebody tried to paint my portrait the oil paints asked to be refined into fuel, so that they could be burned instead. They said it would be less painful!
