Sorry, can't see the owl, but since birds seem to be the theme, here's an albatross from our recent cruise in southern New Zealand waters:

Meanwhile, over in poetry corner.........

".......The ice was here, the ice was there,
The ice was all around:
It cracked and growled, and roared and howled,
Like noises in a swound!

At length did cross an Albatross,
Thorough the fog it came;
As if it had been a Christian soul,
We hailed it in God's name.

It ate the food it ne'er had eat,
And round and round it flew.
The ice did split with a thunder-fit;
The helmsman steered us through!

And a good south wind sprung up behind;
The Albatross did follow,
And every day, for food or play,
Came to the mariner's hollo!

-
-
-

Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink. "

You'll probably not recognise the first extract, but you might recognise the last bit :)

Similar to you, Mick. I had to learn the bloody thing for Eng Lit 'O' Level. :?

I could have taken the easy option and posted up Albert Ross by Fleetwood Mac over on the P.E. Jukebox.... but where's the fun in that ? :lol:

Some great pictures from your trip Alec, which I caught up with at the end of January.

How many views has our humble pictures of the day thread had over the years :?:

Yesterday the 600,000 views barrier was bludgeoned through, and as of now a further 3,000 plus views have been added.A testament to the content provided in the 11,000 plus posts on the thread of immense variety, locations, subject matter with the usual quirkiness and creativity from FCF members.

No resting on laurels though, Picture(s) of the Day moves on and always needs a new contributions every day to maintain its credibility

That's a pretty good photo considering it must have been practically dark!! Using myglaren's handy reference guide, looks like it might be a Barn owl.

In the spirit of this thread, I think a prize should definitely be offered for the first (or best) photo of a Teat Owl in the wild!!
