On the ramps & found the culprit, a rotted out steel pipe near the rack
Thought I'd ask at the local Auto Parts and off I trundled on the bike at 4 degree's Celcius (thank goodness for heated seats & heated grips) only
Got home, set out the tools and started. Stopped for tea then carried on.... just over 3hrs, mostly due to a really difficult to manouvre pair of pipes that need to go around the steering column & into a teeny tight space at the back. The pipes may have been slightly twisted because I had a fight on my hands popping the ends in place. Then the bolt didn't want to go in more than a turn & a half! Turns out the top pipe had not seated so more bad language
So tightened up the bolt & set about rebuilding the wheel arch.... Had to take right plastic arch off, and the screen wash bottle to get good access to the pump & unscrew the bolt holding the pipe clamp. I also undid the bumper to get it to move a few inches, only that side though. Then to squeeze the pipes in, I had to undo the plastic hiding the crank pulley, which was fun
Topped up the steering fluid, turned on the ignition to see if I could persuade the pump to turn without the engine running.... No such luck. So with the other wheel suspended & the right one off, I steered a few times to get the fluid moving, topped it up and did it again then started the engine, another few lock to lock and steering was back. Checked fluid level, looks great, so flung her back together, filled the washer fluid and called it a success. Drove it around, great! Parked up went in & had my dinner.
Didn't take any pics as I was all oily, but as mentioned, it's not as bad as I thought it might be.
