Citroen C4 B7 BlueHDI 1.6 - Proper installation of the oil filter
I apologize if this topic has been discussed before, I couldn't find a similar one when searching. I have the following problem - after changing the oil and filter, I have a message - oil pressure failure, stop the engine. I wonder if this is due to improper installation of the oil filter, I watched several videos and in some of them, the filter is mounted on the cap first and then the cap is screwed on with the filter to the engine, but in others, it is shown how the filter is first placed in the engine opening and then the cap is screwed on. Another thing is - I removed the old oil with an extractor, could this be the reason for the error?

Re: Citroen C4 B7 BlueHDI 1.6 - Proper installation of the oil filter
Have you used the correct oil filter from Citroen ? If it is like the one on our 2016 1.6 blue hdi Cactus then the filter has a lug on it that goes into a drain hole in the filter housing. This lug has an O-ring on it that seals the hole. When fitting the new filter I have tried fitting it first to the cover and then being careful to get the lug into the hole but the last time I put the filter in the housing with the lug in the hole and then fit the cover - this was more certain to get it right.

Thanks Paul, I'm expecting the new filter today and will install it later today or tomorrow. The filter is Bosch P7082 - £11.42 on Amazon. The one which is fitted is the same. Will update the topic with the results. I buy Bosch because the brand was recommended to me by a colleague who has a Citroen Picasso.

Def fit the filter to the housing first, ensuring that the lug is engaged with the hole in the base, at about 7 o'clock - doing it the other way must risk the lug not engaging. I can be tricky to get the lid to start on the thread, depending on how tough the top of the filter is.

That Bosch oil filter looks like the one I got from Citroen but I can not remember what make the Citroen one was but I noted it cost £18.10 last summer. They seem to have put their prices up a lot recently, maybe it is my local dealer increasing margins. I prefer to get the oil filters from Citroen to make sure they are the correct ones, other types of filter I am not too bothered if a car is well out of any warranties although often they do not seem quite the same, even if they have the same brand name. The sump plug washers from Citroen are cheaper than many other places.

If you get two large sealing rings in with the filter make sure you use the correct one. On our 308 with the BlueHdi engine that's the green coloured one which has a larger cross section than the black one.

Re: Citroen C4 B7 BlueHDI 1.6 - Proper installation of the oil filter
I just changed the filter - the oil pressure warning disappeared, I drove the car a bit back and forth to warm it up, but the message did not reappear - it's such a relief. The first time I installed the filter by first inserting it into the engine opening and then screwing on the cap on top. As RichardW mentioned, it was quite difficult to start screwing it on, I had to apply some force to catch the thread, and I had to use a wrench all the way to the end. The filter was not stable in the opening, and I wasn't sure if it was positioned correctly after I put the cap on, I assume not since it led to the oil pressure issues. I examined the opening carefully before installing the new filter, the bottom of the opening is like a spiral, which the pin of the filter follows when screwing in, and at the end of the spiral - where the drainage hole is, there's a stopper that prevents the filter from turning further and fixes it in the right position. This time I first inserted the filter into the cap, pressed it in and it clicked well and fixed in place, then I screwed the cap with the filter into the engine opening, the turning was smooth, I did it by hand, only for the last 2-3 turns I've used a wrench, it seems that this is the correct way of installation as RichardW mentioned. Thanks to everyone for the advice and opinions, this is my first DIY oil change and I hope it's the only one where I encounter problems.
