Portable 12V inverter in 508

Dear Owners,

I came up with the idea of buying a portable 12-volt to 230-volt inverter and using it to ozone the cabin annually and vacuum the interior with a household vacuum cleaner in the garage.
Is it safe for the car's electrical system to connect the inverter directly to the car's battery and use it while the engine is running?
One and only requirement I found in the inverter manual is that the vehicle's electrical system must have minus grounded electrical system. Does the 508 meet this condition?

Pretty much every car made in the last 50+ years is negative ground system.
I would image you would need quite a beefy inverter to operate a vacuum cleaner off. Motors can create a heavy surge when they start up so you would likely need a wattage much higher than what the vacuum is rated at. If you have decent heavy duty cables clipped directly to the battery terminals that are rated highly enough for the appliance they are powering & the appliance you are powering off the inverter is rated for the inverter then it should be fine.

Thank you for your response! I have a 1000W inverter, the hoover has adjustable power and I have checked that on the minimum setting it draws about 500W. I realise that the alternator at idle will not provide the energy to cover usage, but it will be an extra protection for the battery health.

Just be carefull not to drain the battery too much as lead acid battery's dont like that and will die pretty soon then.

if the vacuum pulls 500 watts you can use it only for 20 mins max.

you'd need to think seriously about the damage you could be doing to the car's alternator running this setup and the cost of a professional installed dedicated connection point directly to the battery

one of these would be a better way of doing it.......1x battery, 20 mins.....and it opens the door to more power tool usage in a non-supplied garage

Could you elaborate a little bit more? What damage can be there if the alternator recharges while the engine is running and I vacuum the car for 10 minutes?

1000 watts at 12 volts is 84 amps so the cables to the battery will need to be thick or they will overheat and melt. As pointed out, the battery may not last/survive if you are going to use a mains voltage vac.
