lowering 205

Unread post by jpl »

Can I lower my 205 at the front by 40mm without changing the rear ride height?
Does the lowering affect the camber and caster angles?
Thanks

You can lower it only at the front but it will look stupid, your best bet is to do the rear aswell, theres plenty of web sites showing how.As for camber and caster,i doubt if they will alter much but just have them checked by a specialist to make sure, have fun!

I did this and not only did it look daft, the rear end was incredibly light and twitchy. Not a good idea for very long.
I had the rear end lowered 100mm for £100 and the roadholding is fantastic.

100 mil!!!! jesus you must have bin scrubbin your back box at that!!!! the front is no problem,BUT THE REAR!!!! a car of that age ,you will not get anyone to do it for you and if they do it will cost you an arm and a leg!!! i have a 96 volcane dt 3 dr (mint)(same as 306 but with rear discs)(my last zx was dropped 60 mil at rear and it cost me a fortune on rear mud flaps as they misteriously kept dissapearing) and have been told by 4 different garages that everything will be seeeeezed up and the rear end will have to come out and (blattered)with a sledge hammer to get torsion bars out.i was quoted £70 last week,POSSIBLY ENDING UP WITH A BILL OF £180 IF THINGS DONT GO WELL.

Well my car is an 1989 model and had done 140,ooo miles. The guy who did it said he had to use heat, but he had it done in an hour or so. You can tell if your trailing arm bearings are on the way out and if they aren't, a good 205 specialist should be able to lower it no problem. I was told by several so-called specialists the same thing, accompanied by a sharp intake of breath, but find a good and one and you will be OK.
The back is low and nothing scraped until someone reversed into my drivers side rear wheel arch.
The rear is so tied down, I can't even do handbrake turns anymore!
Where are you in the country? I might be able to suggest a decent place to get the back lowered.

I dont think there is a recommended lowering height as peugeot wont really recommend lowering the car! But,most lowering springs are about a 40mm drop and one spline on the rear torsion bars will give you between 40 and 50mm drop,to be honest unless someone has done it on this forum its just a case of trial and error, good luck!
