Just use the firmware - it will recreate the partitions and install the operating system software.

Firmware? You mean update? I tried to download and install latest update from here:
https://www.peugeotrczforum.com/threads ... ng4.15436/

But I already have installed it, and when I connect USB stick or SD card with update then nothing happened.

Firmware Update (which if used on a system with no operating system (like when you have installed a new CF Card), it will detect this and re-install the operating system and create all the correct partitions. It will take some time.

You cannot install on SD card.

Use the FAT32 formatted USB stick.
Make sure you ONLY extract the firmware files to the USB and DO NOT include the firmware file itself on the USB. Nothing else must be on the USB stick.

Use this file I will send a link to in your private messages.

Hi,
I believe I have a head unit showing signs of failure, reboot @30 minutes or less sometimes and occasional screen flicker on my 2012 3008.
I brought to main dealership who recommended a software update but this did nothing and then suggested it needed a @€1500-2000 new unit !!!
The brilliant replacement of the hard drive posted while detailed would be beyond my capabilities, is there any place or person in Ireland that would be recommended to carry out such a repair or replacement?

Hello guys,
I'm new here and posting for the first time, but I've been following this topic for a while.
After some issues with the navigation system (abort and restart), I decide to replace the hard drive in my 2012 RCZ with a new one (absolutely the same model MK4050). So no CF card.
So I installed the new hdd and I want to create the partitions with the FW 42c on USB.
After 67% when the system wanted to reboot, the update aborted and the error message 0x3019 appeared.
Is there a solution to this problem?
I took lots of pictures of the update (also hidden menu) in case anyone can help.
Thanks!

Just repeat the installation, this is normal.

Try a different USB drive. No larger than 32GB and formatted in FAT32.

I'm not convinced that you have a new genuine HDD, as these automotive grade models are very hard to get now and those that are for sale tend to be used / resold versions that have already been in old servers.

It's one of the reasons why most of us here replaced with a CF Card as they are cheaper and new and remain compatible with the ATA command set used on these drives.
However, make sure that you have the HDD jumpered correctly to SLAVE. It may have been in MASTER configuration in its past life and that won't work. The DVD ROM is always the Master and the HDD the slave in the Head NG4 Unit.

There were NO jumper on the "old" HDD in the NG4 unit. May I have put some jumper now on it? Sorry, incomprehensible to me :?:
I will try to update the FW with some other USB drive. Also incomprehensible to me because I used the last years always the same formated device (FAT32 64k cluster) without any problems.

So are you 100% that the replacement drive is not defective? As I said these are not available except used. The only way to test it is with either an older computer or use a SATA to PATA converter in a modern PC and then use some HDD utilities to check its usage and history / condition.

I would want to rule out HDD problems that may be preventing the installation / partition creation by the firmware.

Hello,

after a long time I wanted to give an update.

@GiveMeABreak: the new hard drive is as good as new. No defective sectors.
The same applies to the 12 year old built-in hard drive. No defective sectors.

Since the current system keeps crashing, I tried, as explained a thousand times here, to partition the new hard drive with the FW to have a clean and virgin OS.
Unfortunately that doesn't work! After at least 50 attempts, the error message 0x3019 appears after 67% (when the system wants to reboot). I have tried countless USB sticks and SD cards, to no avail!
I have been updating the FW and maps on the car for 12 years and have NEVER had any problems.
If I now copy the image of the old hard drive onto the new one, it works perfectly. Unfortunately the system still crashes then I copy the errors with it.

Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong and can help me?
Does anyone maybe have a clean image of the operating system and would share it?

Thanks a lot!

You have to understand that replacing the HDD does NOT fix any problems that already exist with the motherboard. If your system has internal hardware or software failure then this will not resolve your problem and you'll need to consider a replacement.

This guide is not a one solution fixes all guide. It is only intended for those who wanted to preserve their HDDs in case of future HDD failure as the automotive grade HDD replacements are very hard if not impossible to get hold of now. As I said cheap HDDs on the market are NOT new, they are very likely used, which a decent HDD utility can usually detect.

I myself had a perfect HDD without issues, but converted it to use the CF card replacement which worked faultlessly until I sold my vehicle, with my original drive in storage.

If the fault is on the motherboard - the boot EPROM chip may be corrupt. There's nothing I can do to fix this. There have been some videos of restoring the boot software on these systems, but the poster left no info for anyone. From what I gathered the hardware and software to do this was extortionately expensive and so not feasible for most.

Most of us are going to face similar issues even with later systems as the flash memory nears end of data-writable life.

Like I said, I'm sorry this solution has not worked for you, but it cannot fix internal problems.

Hi all,

I have a 2010 Citroen C5 with an NG4 head unit. A year or two back I turned the car on to it showing Peugeot instead of Citroen, this was corrected on diagbox. For the past year or two the system re boots every 45-60 minutes usually, this is becoming increasingly annoying especially when on a phone call. I have had the fan tested in the head unit incase it was over heating and it is working like new. I have not had anyone look at the rest of the head unit as no one seems to want to touch it. I have read through most of this thread and understand the process of replacing the hard drive to a CF card although I am no expert in this field.

My question is, is it too late for my system with it already having issues? What step would you advise to take first. Other than the re booting it seems to be working perfectly fine but I am now at the point where it is driving me mad.

Many thanks,

Shane

Hard to say if this will fix this particular issue, as it could be the HDD starting to fail, or it could be internal (chips on the motherboard), so I would suggest you have nothing to loose as if it doesn't make any difference, you still have your original HDD.
