On that note I better stop sitting around after my lunch and crack on with the Coupe!

On the video above, 19 minutes in he has an excellent description of the differences between the 407 and C6 bushes.
The that bush is visibly different in height either of the two above! So there's at least three types of bush to be aware of!

I'm surprised at the amount of rust for the age of the vehicle

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

"On holiday" think it's called
Yes it is quite rusty for 21 years old. Mind you, my wife's 206 was a good chunk younger when it's sill was absolutely rotten. (And my sister's Ford Ka very much worse at no age at all really)

Those pad retaining pins could still put up a fight Matt, unless they're already out... They did in my AX, so much so that I got new calipers...
Such fun cars in a great package... Shame they can rust like an old Italian... I had one, loved it and so wanted to keep it but the rust was so extensive it was truly BER...MattBLancs wrote: 19 Dec 2023, 14:46 (And my sister's Ford Ka very much worse at no age at all really)

Quite surprised as they looked grim and likely to be a battle.
Didn't win me over to be honest, the 60's relic engine was ok, thankfully didn't shear the plugs off. Very short gearing and generally seemed a bit "tinny"

Gearbox always reluctant to go into reverse (bent shift rods inside the box?) And ate it's miniscule clutch at 31,000 miles.
Think the rotten sills were about a year later and it was sold on (to a garage who then fixed it up)

That was all part of their charm. Ancient rough old OHV engine, just slightly less tinny than a Series 1 AX and driving like a go-kart on rails... Apart from that, they were horribly noisy, crude cheap Ford rubbish but capable of putting a very silly grin on your faceMattBLancs wrote: 19 Dec 2023, 15:01Didn't win me over to be honest, the 60's relic engine was ok, thankfully didn't shear the plugs off. The pins in all their glory:
So the little hole near the anti-roll bar has escalated a touch....
Piece of metal in my hand is reversed piece from the two matching spot welds on the car

Like the Ka summary!
In fairness I never had opportunity to chuck it down the country roads perhaps it would have won me over!? My sister did love it but equally was her first car

Those pins look super crusty Matt!
Funny how seemingly small patches of rust have a rotten habit of growing like Topsy

Yep, can see why I was fearing the worst!
Suppose it's about typical, I have new calipers ready to fit, so what otherwise would have been a big issue if they had been stuck fast, unusually wasn't an issue - so they "decided" was no point seizing after all!
Definitely from the inside, out in this bit, so I guess is to be expected.Funny how seemingly small patches of rust have a rotten habit of growing like Topsy![]()
Will be adding a nice point (covered with a blind grommet) to squirt some waxoil in as part of the fix

Whilst I think on,
Disk retaining screws, rear of 406
6905 36
Quantity 04
COUNTERSUNK HEAD CAPSCREW, DIAM 6X100-14
(So M6 14mm long)
May try these:
Stainless Steel Socket Countersunk Screw M6 x 16mm
https://www.toolstation.com/stainless-s ... rew/p73304
50 pack, £4.59
Brake unions confirmed (from the new caliper and flex hoses) as being M10x1.0

Post has arrived, oh no I have failed to pay the Dartford crossing charge, which I apparently went over on the first October this year in the C5!
Thankfully they have included a picture of "me" in the act of this awful misconduct...

I hope you are sitting down, a "slightly more enthusiastic** tapping" still with a small hammer, further down the floor where it meets the cill has revealed:Rp0thejester wrote: 19 Dec 2023, 13:58 I'm surprised at the amount of rust for the age of the vehicle
