Don't know where this forum gets it's spell checker, but while it's happy with York, Newcastle and Whitby, it doesn't like Portchester, Wallington, Cosham or Buriton. Seems like it has a bit of a North Country bias...

It is more likely to be your browser spellchecker.
I have my OS spelling as UK English and also select the same on the browser but every time I reboot I have to reset the Google spellcheck to UK English.
Even then there are many that default to US English and have to be taught the right way.

It is most likely due to my running a cleaner each evening before shutting down (BleachBit) that wipes all the cookies and tons of other crap. The browsers are all set to do the same.

Well it looks to be the same scene that I posted on the previous page, only without the snow. I thought it was Buriton, a village near Petersfield.

However I looked through endless photos of Buriton on Google maps, and none showed that scene. Was I wrong?

No, you were right, it is very much Buriton I was out and about today so thought I'd stop off at Buriton and recreate your photo - the last time I stopped there was probably around the time your photo was taken I used to green lane on the Milky Way* on the trail bike around there occasionally so knew the area. The pond appears to have been dredged and enlarged quite a bit since your day, and some of the trees have grown a bit !

Fantastic - my wife will be fascinated. She took the photos I posted, and organised the prints into labelled albums.

At the time I took pretty much only colour slides - I still have the slides, but I've never got around to digitising them, so they sit in a drawer...

Re. Myglaren's comments on the spell checker - I realised he was on the money when it objected to "colour". I have now switched my browser to UK English, and surprise, surprise, it recognises a lot more English place names!

I bought a machine to digitise old slides and negatives which is very useful. It is called a Maginon and does a good job with negatives, not tried slides.:

I have thousands of slides that should be digitised. Problem is any are 6x6 and scanners cost a fortune.
Even 35mm ones are not guaranteed to work with Linux.

A friend gave me a flat-bed scanner with a slide gizmo, but it was useless, as the scanner head had a very narrow depth of field, and was designed to focus on something lying flat on the glass panel. Unless you took the slide out of the frame and laid it flat on the glass, the image produced was out of focus!

I should definitely try a dedicated scanner - need to read some reviews and find one that will retain the sharpness of the original image. Of course the slides themselves don't help as they 'pop' in & out of focus...

Lidl, Aldi or both, I forget which sometimes have slide scanners that are apparently quite decent. One of our members (Hell Razor5543) has one.
Doesn't appear to work with Linux though, no drivers for them.

My first thought on seeing it was how good it would be to run up that hill Robin It's how we runners think... Show us any map and we'll instinctively look for potential running routes on it...
