207 throttle prob and//or timing belt?

Unread post by GreenTee »

My 207 started fine but no revs. Started it a second time, still no revs and got a warning beep. AA man's diagnostics showed three faults P0121, P1153, P1161 ... "Throttle valve: position outside specified range". He said it could be throttle body or throttle pedal sensor.

Went to the car a few days later to roll it into a better place for garage to collect it from, and now it doesn't start ... electrics fine but there's simply a high-pitched noise when I turn key.

That noise reminds me of when the timing belt went on my much-missed 206. Any thoughts on what the source of the prob is most likely to be? It's a 2006 1.4 8v petrol. Despite 110,000 miles on clock it's a smart little car -- deserves to be saved, tho it was hard to find a garage willing to look at it.

The squeal you can hear is the throttle body. It's perfectly normal.
The engine probably wont start because it cant tell where the the throttle butterfly valve is. For all the engine ECU knows it could be fully open.
The throttle bodies and the accelerator pedals in these systems are very reliable and, unfortunately, the fault tends to be in the engine ECU.
The two feed back potentiometers in the throttle body can be checked for continuity at the engine ECU. The voltages from the output of the two accelerator pedal circuits can be checked at the engine ECU also.
But, as I said, the fault tends to be in the engine ECU.
The cheapest way to replace the engine ECU is with a "kit" from Ebay of a used engine ECU, BSI and keys.

My problem now is finding someone in southeast London willing to put the time/effort into identifying the exact problem, sourcing the parts and fixing it. Booked it into one recommended garage, but they rang back and sd, "Nah, can't help" after I gave them the fault codes. It's now in another recommended garage but they plainly think it's too much effort for a 2006 car with 110k miles on clock, despite it being a v tidy, clean car. I fear the salvage man cometh.

Great to get a reply from sunny Brissie (I had pals in Eight Mile Plains)

I used to live in, and now my son lives in, Rochedale, the adjacent suburb!

As I said, I would try the ECU, BSI and keys "kit" from ebay/breakers.
There are a few company's that can read the PIN code from the BSI and "clone" an engine ECU to replace your old ECU. But you will need to source a correct, used, engine ECU, then send your BSI and the replacement ECU to them. You could search the 'net or PM "Wheeler" on this forum.
