Something I've never seen in all my life Matt and I'd truly love to one day... I just missed the Aurora Borealis a week or so ago when it got as far south to be visible from my home and have been watching the forecasts closely since.

I saw there was a big Coronal Mass Ejection a few days ago which may result in another one travelling well south. We have lovely clear skies at the moment so fingers crossed it happens either today or tomorrow :)

I first saw them in October Steve... An amazing sight, looks like a fleet of UFOs travelling across the sky... I thought the Vogons had finally arrived

You'll need a strong show to see it your way Jim! Down load the Glendale app from aurora-alert.uk - gives real time info. Was strong early yesterday evening, but bright moon dented the effect.

I like a bit of colour, but the many images like this one are either the result of Falcon-esque colour enhancement after the event, or very long exposures. I liked Richard's pics which are probably more like what the naked eye sees. I must have seen the aurora many times judging by local pics popping out of social media at what seems more and more frequent occasions, but never knowingly so :-D

This is a particularly poignant image now never repeatable since the recent Sycamore Gap Chainsaw Massacre.

In the meantime before POTD night-time photography club recommences shutter clicks for the impending beaver moon and maybe a bit more aurora borealis, maybe POTD Swan Day could provide a fairly easy challenge.

Probably one of the easiest birds to find and photograph whether in parks, ponds, lakes, rivers etc.

Go forth this Sunday 26th November 2023 FCF faithful, and bring an original Picture of a Swan back to POTD. :-D

Here's a starter

No swans around here other than the Swan industrial estate (for Joseph Swan, inventor of the light bulb, stick that in your pipe and smoke it Faraday).
Anyway, no swans there and it is too far to walk even if there were.
