The two rows nearest the driver are buttons. The further away ones are the various lights. The most important lights are attached to their respective gauges in the actual instrument cluster.

It always struck me as something I'd have expected to see on a concept car, but on a production model was a definite surprise.

Admittedly not half as much as a surprise as how well it actually does work was.

There's not much of an interior, or a dashboard on a BSA Sport Star from the early 60's, and today speedo visibility was pretty poor...

It is way back in the dim and distant past but I don't recall mine being especially difficult to see.
Or perhaps I didn't bother looking at it.

Should a rev counter be desired an abacus and a stopwatch would suffice :-D

On those bikes Neil, you simply use your ears as a rev counter ;) Time each time it fires and multiply by 20...

The speedo can be dispensed with too by counting how many lampposts pass between each firing and multiplying by 60...

And being a BSA you'll also get a lot a feedback through the seat of your pants...

Even that wasn't necessary on my Honda 50, just this engine status panel: :-D

Has the bottom dropped out of the HY van market yet :?:

Plenty of fresh air flowing into the cabin on this interior and dashboard pic

Note how you can right through the interior and out through the grill
