Peugeot 406 BAD Oil Consumption

Post by gwailo »

I have a 1998 S-Reg pug 406 1.8 LX, with 33,000miles on the clock, Since i bought it i have covered about 2000miles and it has used 2.5 litres of oil. There does not seems to be any smoke apparent from the backend.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
Regards

DONT THINK YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO WORRK ABOUT ALL ENGINES USE OIL TO SOME DEGREE. MANUFACTURES ALLOW 1LTR PER 500 MILES

Try a change of oil and to a different manufacturer.
Peuogeot petrols of the past have been noted for oil going past the valve guide seals when they rack up some miles, if that mileage is genuine this shouldn't be your problem though.
No obvious leaks, it does sound excessive to me but could just be the brand of oil being used.

If it's any comfort I have a '97 406 1.8LX that's done 72K and it uses more oil than I would expect too. Doesn't leak it, doesn't burn it (not visible anyway!).
