Some vehicles have a gauge only in the fuel tank (sender unit), with the HPFP on the engine (be careful if performing maintenance as high pressures can remain for some time after the engine has been switched off).

I have found fuel pump locations depend on whether it is petrol or diesel and which engine they have so if you can provide this info it will help. As an example, our 2.2 hdi C5 does not have a tank pump, it has a hand primer under the bonnet and the high pressure fuel pump is at the gear box end of the cylinder head. If you have a diesel, follow the pipes from the fuel filter and one should go to the high pressure fuel pump.

Mine is a 1.6 diesel...the hand primer pump I have tried to fill the fuel filter box with fuel but it only seems like a very small amount in the full filter when I took it off to renew...after renewal I could only hand pump a small amount yet again..
So am wounder in if it has 2pumps or just the injection pump...
And what is causing the lack of fuel to get through...it would cut out when driving fast..then fail to restart...but after a couple of hours it would restart..
That happened a few times...
But this time it didn't want to start...and there was only a tiny amount of fuel in the fuel filter....So....???

No lift pump on the 1.6 - except the later Blue HDis which have gone back to an electric lift pump. Lack of fuel could be blocked pipe, or blocked breather on the tank - try it with the fuel cap loose?

Will try thanks...
You didn't think it's the main injection pump then ... Someone mentioned a fuel relay...or a fuel pressure sensor...??
