Locaton of Gear Oil Filler

Unread post by Pendraegor »

Hi, I'm having difficulty locating the Gearbox Oil Filler hole on my Autosleeper Motorhome - Peugeot Boxer 2.0l Petrol - I had to change the Speedo Sensor.

Looking at diagrams all over the place, I have a drain plug on the bottom of the gearbox, one on the side but I can't find anything on the top of the gearbox. I've tried to use the side one but the oil just keeps coming out.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum. The normal way to re-fill a gearbox is through the reverse switch hole.

Thank you - there is some sort of switch on the top of the gearbox - was a bit worried about undoing it, just in case I was wrong.

I will try that now, thank you

That should be the reverse light switch. There will be a simple connection (two wires) to remove first, then the switch, and top her up. Make sure to do this on level ground, and once oil starts coming out of the side hole (so remove that bolt as well) it should have the right amount of oil in there. Just make sure to use the right gearbox oil (otherwise the synchromesh gears can fail), topped up to the right level.

You are welcome. I had to do the same to a Xantia many years ago. Just so long as you left the 'filler' bolt out as you topped up the oil through the reverse switch hole, otherwise you could have overfilled the gearbox, which can mean oil goes where it is NOT wanted!

Yep, did that. Got my son to watch if it came out the level hole, then stopped. Thank you again.

Just be wary as depending on the gearbox you have, some of these gearboxes are inclined at an angle, so they do not recommend filling from the level plug.
