Automatic gearbox

Unread post by Mancunian »

Hi again friends,

Here I am again with maintenance needs for my car.

Does anyone know how often (in miles) an automatic gearbox (I think is electronic too but unsure? How can I know?) needs replacing? Transmission fluid or oil replacing? And how complicated it is? what is the cost?

Any help would be useful

Thanks
M.

If this is for your vehicle, VIN ending in 566, then you don't have an automatic transmission. You have a standard manual gearbox and clutch which is piloted - meaning it's a robotised manual that uses hydraulic actuators to do the shifting and clutch operation for you.

These are normally maintenance free until the clutch is changed, when the system needs calibrating, which is the time to check the hydraulic oil level. But beware the actuator oil must be checked when the hydraulic actuator system has been depressurised with a diagnostic tool, level checked and then re-pressurised.

This operation should be left to someone who has the experience and the equipment to perform these operations and the calibration though.
