HDi Coupe, first full tank calculations:
667.5 miles covered
£1.557/litre, £103 = 66.15 litres = 14.55 gallons

45.9 MPG.

Pretty pleased with that for a mix of motorway (majority) including some terrible stop-start traffic, some local pottering (school run etc a few times) and little bit of towing to tip etc. Still enjoying the "turbo whoosh" so not exactly conducive to max economy.

Never could hear that with either of mine. The only time I thought that I could it was the alternator cracking up and audible through the radio.

That's fantastic Matt - I'll bet you can get over 50mpg if you push it.

If they did an Automatic gearbox in those 2.0 litre Diesel variants, I'd have bought one myself.

This is a bit off standard, inlet system is "simplified" so the strange air to water heat exchanger (in parallel to the normal air to air intercooler) isn't present. Has a custom fabrication inlet piece that feeds to inlet manifold and a few other bits. Plus the stainless exhaust.

Turbo whistle very present most of the time. Suspect very much an acquired taste for most but doesn't annoy me. Lovely "snarl" when you get foot down and goes like stink!

Blue = front mount intercooler
Red = air to coolant heat exchanger
Yellow = just straight pieces of pipe on mine!

There is a 2.0 petrol auto (actually there's two early XU10 automatic and later EW10J4 with 4 speed AL4 automatic) my other Coupe was originally the Al4 auto. I bought it with said autobox partially failed - the brake band giving first gear had broken, effectively giving a "slipping clutch" type effect when attempting to set off. Other gears unaffected.

So I tried putting it in snow mode (sets off in second) to get it home. This worked so well I did about 7000 miles like that whilst formulating a plan! Worked ok other than setting off up a big hill: too much throttle and it would change down (into the first gear that "didn't exist"!) And much reving but no progress would result! (Very quick drive to neutral back to drive with snow mode on was the solution) unfortunately where I worked at the time had a tight roundabout then long steep climb on the exit. I worried about that first half mile more than the rest of the (200 mile!) Trip back!!

Plan was hatched to convert to manual - and with a "slight" gap during the house renovations described above - that's what I did. It's done about 30,000 miles more since it gained a clutch pedal and has been a great car.

Having said that, 137bhp in a 1400kg car does not sit well with its looks really. Sheep in Wolf's clothing.

Economical though, think the (crippled) auto used to give high thirties MPG, similar since went manual (and the manual 2.0 coupe ratios are really short! 3400rpm at 70mph)

Ah... I thought you had a Diesel, I would have never considered that economy was possible from a Petrol engine. That's impressive!

The shape of the 406 and 407 coupes are beautiful for sure; and personally I prefer the 406 due to the cleaner lines. Reminds me a little of the Vauxhall Calibra, which I also consider to be a stunning design despite it's humble stable.

I very nearly bought a Calibra when I was 19, but getting in and seeing the clumsy Vauxhall Cavalier dashboard ruined the magic for me  it just felt so boring to drive; and that was having come from a Peugeot 405 GR

Months later I bought a rusty Jaguar Sovereign instead....

Yep, always best to replace Matt... I keep a couple in stock here.. Last one I did was at my eldest daughter's house... Just a tiny bit of limescale was enough to see off their special posh dual flush push-button one...

Agree, but wanted to see if one of the various "useful" rubber washers in the garage would sort it first! :)

Is that an 'in case' rubber washer or a 'box of graduated sizes' rubber washer? :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
