An interesting experiment Matt!

Phosphoric acid is the basis of many rust killing potions and an ingredient in cola!

You'll never suffer from rust if you drink coke ;)

Yep, I believe so, hence bought 10 litres of stuff and chuck it on / submerge things in it whenever I come across anything rusty :-D

I must stop forgetting I've submerged items though - given a full week in the stuff they emerge encased in a thick layer of crystals! Couple of hours is plenty

In a change both to the day in question and the mode of transport, the HDi Coupe has took the big trailer to the tip this morning

Wow, taking brown bins to the skip, never thought of that. That would save me paying the yearly subscription cost for the council to empty it

Depending on how much garden waste you have, a compost bin would save the brown bin charge and give you free compost into the bargain.

Well we are not gardeners yet, to busy at work, so our own supply of compost would be useless to us at the moment. Although I had thought about it.

When we had guinea pigs we'd three compost bins plus the brown bin collected (when it used to be free)

Think it's £25 a year for the brown bin collection. the tip is very close so it's always been a no brainer (and good use of the trailer) not to pay and take it to them "for nowt"

The bins to the tip is very handy, surprisingly easy to tip them in their skip without them flying out of your control - was very nervous first time attempted it!

In a change to normal proceedings, the C5 has been washed, polished, clayed, waxed, hoovered and...

Interesting "fault" and short term solution:

Noticed in the 406 Coupe when accelerating hard from a stand still: very definite "sloshing" sound, to driver's right hand side.

No chance of a look in daylight yet, so fumbling around in the gloom yesterday, I found the large round blind grommet, underside of the door about quarter of the way along from the hinge end.

Pulled that out and about quarter of a bucket of water followed it and on to the floor! That'll be what I could hear then!

Seems less keen to steam up inside afterwards too! :)

Popped the passenger side grommet out this morning, but no flood behind there thankfully.

Sounds to me like your drainage from the scuttle may be blocked allowing the water to go down the inner wing into the door, or of course it may just be your window rubbers are not sealing the window properly allowing rain into the door!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Good thoughts Mick, I need to have a dig that direction (as I think the wiper motor sounds a bit noisy and generally mechanism tends to appreciate some lubrication) looked ok in there when I was in the other side to change the cabin filter.

Window rubber looks ok really, no massive gap like I've seen on one car in the past.

Should be a plastic/foam sheet inside the door, so the internal condensation suggests that's not present or sealed fully.

There should be drain holes in the bottoms of the doors Matt... They're designed to get wet inside and then drain out as required...

Yes, agreed. Just couldn't find them in the dark yesterday morning when dressed for sat in the office rather than lying on the floor :-D will have a look and make sure the proper holes are clear, at the weekend
