207cc Throttle sensor

I have been dealing with a list of problems with my wife’s 207cc as you will see from my previous posts. So far so good with help from the forum.

I have one last problem which I think is the throttle position sensor

Car starts fine although a little lumpy in tick over. After driving about 1/2 mile it goes into limp mode with no acceleration.

No lights on the dash board come on and nothing showing. Stop the car and restart and then it’s gone but also fine all day even after re starts

Also if you start the car and let it warm up then switch it off and start it again then it doesn’t go into limp mode.

So I think what’s happening is as it comes of choke the sensor is receiving a signal that it can’t deal with

I will stick a code reader on it at weekend but wanted any thoughts

I know it has a sensor at the engine end but does it have one at the pedal

Hmm, if it's lumpy at start then there's an issue there for sure. Throttle senser shouldn't be the issue as you've not pressed it to start the engine. Is it petrol or diesel?

Hi it’s a petrol. 1.6.

Okay, silly questions now. Have you done anything to the fuel lines, filter etc? Have you touched the spark plugs?

On petrol cars I usually clean the throttle plate when servicing. Carb cleaner can be used or wipe with a cloth damp with white spirit/turps. This removes a carbon build up that can affect the tick over. Always worth a try before looking deeper in to a problem/spending money.

Hi no nothing has been done.

Probably need to let it progress further. It’s going in for an MOT next week so will get it serviced at the same time
