Particulate filter fluid top up.

Unread post by Bungle1983 »

Hi,

I have a ds5 2013 and just had the particulate filter fluid low message pop up.

What fluid is it (lots of conflicting info) and is it a pouch or reservoir?

Any guides on how to do it specifically for my car? I’ve looked on YT and found for a ds4.

Thanks in advance!

This is the Eolys fluid for the assisted regeneration of the Diesel particle filter. A minute amount is metered into the fuel tank each time you add fuel and this helps reduce the required exhaust gas temperature needed for regeneration to occur.

The fluid is dependent upon the vehicle and the build date.

Pop your VIN up and I'll advise of the correct type. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

So you have a reservoir system, not a pouch and you will need Powerflex additive.

Bear in mind that unless you have a professional level diagnostic tool, you won't be able to reset the additive counter in the engine ECU and this is essential to do. So unless you do, give the dealer a ring for a quote to do it for you.

Great advice! Although I called them to do the job and I got fobbed off! Can’t even give my money away!

Big time! I’d also like to update the firmware? I’m on 2.7 and just updated maps, but would like the 7 digit postcode availability. Is there an easy way to do it via usb?

Would the car refuse to start?

I know that it stops dosing the fap fluid and eventually that’s going to cause more issues.

No it won't refuse to start, but you won't get rid of the constant warning as the engine ECU only estimates the fluid remaining and uses this against the service counter miles remaining until next service to determine if there is enough fluid to last until then. If not the warning goes up. You don't want to allow it to get too low by using it after the warning for too long as you don't want the pump to dry run and get damaged.

So as long as you've refilled it it's okay, just need to remember when it was filled. How long would a 3 litre fill up last in miles?

That's the point you can't do it like that Ryan!

The dosing is metered according to the amount of fuel you add to the tank each time and calculated by the engine ECU. You just have to reset the engine ECU when it is topped up. 1 Litre of additive should be added minimum, but the kits are designed to top it up. You can then forget about it for approx. another 76k miles or thereabouts.

Okay Marc!!!! No need for the!!!! But I do enjoy it when you do it!!!! If I'm asking these questions then others are probably thinking it as well!!!! So please give me some slack when I ask these so called 'stupid' questions, it may be stupid to you and me but others will find it helpful

Didn't say a word.

But when I do advise of the correct method, it's for a reason - I don't do shortcuts.

Mine's on 80k miles, so expecting this at any time, although I've no knowledge of whether it's been done before - it was previously sold used by a DS dealer so they may have topped it up. Can I rely on the car telling me it's empty or does it need physically checking? I've seen that the service schedule does list checking it as a task. I've booked it in for an oil change only, but can ask the garage to check it. I'm very limited for driveway maintenance as mine slopes so not safe for jacking.
