I don't think anywhere had planned blackouts in the UK last winter.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
National Grid enacted their 'Demand Flexibility' service on a couple of evenings last winter as electricity supply was getting a bit tight. This requires / requests consumers reduce their electricity usage - depending on contract terms and/or domestic or commercial. It's virtually impossible to state whether this actually averted any power cuts, but I'd reason they didn't take this step unless they thought it necessary for whatever reason.

I bought a very old but efficient Lister generator on the strength of that news - but have never had occasion to connect it up.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
Watched that this morning Steve, Dave's definitely back, enjoyed his presentation, and an interesting topic. Loads of innovation going on all over the world and in this case not just at the research stage, but flow batteries being used.
Back in 2022 I put a list together of the various storage options featured on this thread with the conclusion that a range of tech will emerge. Bit long so its in the spoiler, and the area is constantly developing.

Another month lower than the previous 4 years but ongoing likely to be similar to the previous year as the energy measures we took began last September with the LED lamps throughout and the introduction of the gas kettle!!

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
The RegisterThe UK government is stumping up £36 million ($41.4 million) to help support a green energy project that aims to use waste heat from a datacenter to keep nearby homes warm.
According to the newly formed Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the scheme will be located in the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham and Brent and Ealing to the west of central London, and will connect 10,000 new homes to nearby datacenters to use waste energy for heating.
The project is being developed by the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC), and will also connect 250,000 m2 of commercial space to the same heat network.
Just what they were doing with the waste energy from the combined electricity generating station/waste incinerator where I lived in the seventies.

Refreshingly positive. I started a thread to find out more about Heat pumps back in April 2021, which to date has run to 10 pages of information and comment. More and more companies will jump on the bandwagon, manufacturing will increase volume and unit price will drop.
Just for completeness I will copy that vid into the heat pumps thread which recently I have only sporadically tended.
