Citroen C4 1.6 THP Engine - Misfire fault code - P1340

Hi,

I have an automatic Citroen c4 make year 2009 with 1.6 liter THP engine.
Recently I noticed that if I don't start the engine for two - three days I got the following fault codes

P1340 - Misfire on cylinder 4
P1336 - Misfire on undetermined cylinders
P1337 - Misfire on cylinder 1
P1339 - Misfire on cylinder 3

Again these faults codes are thrown by the ECU if the engine has not started for two- three days. When it happens the engine
vibrates a lot. After a couple of minutes the vibrations disappears and the engine run normally. On idle when the AC is on there
are minor vibrations.

I should add that the temperature at noon at this time of the year is around 30 Celsius and the car parks outdoor. I am not sure but I think noticed that when it happens
upon switching the engine the fan comes on immediately ( AC is off ).

Any idea what is the source for the faults ?

I have heard of misfire codes being caused by bad valve timing (stretched timing chain?).

Rough running on initial startup can be caused by the hydraulic tappets draining down while the engine wash stopped, but you would hear those clattering while the oil pumps up.

Hi,

If the a stretched chain is the cause how comes that it after couple of minutes since starting the engine the fault is not thrown and the vibration stops ?

It turns out that it was a clogged fuel filter.

Is that the fuel filter near the tank? European market vehicles generally were not fitted with a fuel filter.

I wonder what it was clogged with?

I also have a C4 picasso 2013 1.6 THP 155. could a clogged filter give P1339 error? I have swapped out the plug, replaced the cranshaft sensor and checked with known good coils and still it struggles to get moving, stutters and finnaly starts moving, at revs it seems ok

It can be also the high pressure fuel pump or the throttle. I lately get from to time a fault that refers to the throttle.

hi all, I have removed the fuel rail and installed a new injector. does anyone know the torque needed to put the fuel rail back? i really dont want to crack the head

Hi,

The following is from Citroen Doc Backup

"The fixing bolts (5) on the injection rail ; Tighten to 1,9 ± 0,3 daN.m"
