Re: One for the train buffs.
I'm assuming your building all these as places as miniatures for an outdoor railway set on your garden which heads back to the terminal in your shed?

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

That would be good, but expensive so not on the cards right now.

Re: One for the train buffs.
It's surprisingly cheap to buy the materials to build these stations in miniature form. Most expensive bit is your time and effort

Re: One for the train buffs.
I was thinking smaller as in back garden size with no strangers turning up, as in, in and around the plants curving track, there's the blah blah signal box station in front of the roses etc..

Re: One for the train buffs.
This summer the Falcon younger generation visited Hamburg and the "Minatur Wunderland", and found it fascinating.
So how do the cars trucks buses fire engines etc work in the city? Magnets and wires under the streets, explained here

Not quite Mick's idea the other day on Car news Global and domestic, but if it works in miniature, could it in real life

Re: One for the train buffs.
Time to start putting some "glazing" in the window frames. It's around £20 a window for the Acrylic (3mm) cut to my specified size. With having effectively 12 sub-frames in each of the 8 windows, the 3mm is going to have plenty of support/ mounting points to give it rigidity and prevent flapping about. Going up to 5mm or 6mm doubles the price and a bit unnecessarily OTT.
Just got one sheet today see how it works and the best way of mounting it. The sheet is 82.5mm x 62.5mm and will remain as such for the mounting trial, and not be cut up into 12 individual panes. If all goes well I will apply the same method to the remaining windows and get the other sheets measured and ordered.

Re: One for the train buffs.
There is also Amari on the Team Valley Trading Estate Neil, may be a bit far for you to go. I used to get polycarbonate (Plexiglass) sheet from them but have no idea of the prices as it wasn't me who paid the bills.

Re: One for the train buffs.
Thanks Steve always good to know where these specialists are. I've used Bay before, and they were pretty good today. The penny eventually dropped for me on what the guy at the counter was saying. They custom cut whatever size you specify, and don't have racks of pre-cut standard sizes. My craftsmanship hasn't evolved to making all 8 windows exactly the same size, so the custom cutting will be called upon anyway.

Re: One for the train buffs.
Just a thought Neil, I can't tell from the pics but if any of your windows are openers I would advise 5mm glazing on them. The continual movement and torque stress from the wind etc on open windows warrants a stiffer pain to avoid warping. If they are all rigid then I agree 3mm should be fine.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: One for the train buffs.
Thanks Mick. In the actual signal box, only windowa 1 and 4 are openers...sliding as opposed to opening outwards. I have kept things simple...all the windows are fixed non-openers Neilmickthemaverick wrote: ↑27 Sep 2023, 20:51 Just a thought Neil, I can't tell from the pics but if any of your windows are openers I would advise 5mm glazing on them. Just bought some of their Tomato ketchup in the hope that it will be better than the Heinz et al crap.

Draft finishing touches, double signals and homage "gates" loosely based on Downham Market, and Alston sign in Orange and white.
