I keep on getting misfiring on my mi16, it happens mostly at 70 - 80mph on motorways.
I had this before and discovered the cambelt was loose! Now assuming that darn cambelt is loose again (I'll check it tonite) does this mean the cambelt tensioner is knackered??

Yeah but part of the problem is that I've already spent loads on this car already.
I paid a grand for it. It's a 92 "j" reg and had 73000 on the clock when bought it.
I mean it has it's good points, it's doesn't smoke, the black leather interior isn't marked, slot in roof to poor money into etc....lol

Kris,
if your cam belt is loose and you are doing 70-80mph, then you are braver than me!!
the loose belt can only be two thinks a knackered or badly adjusted tensioner or a cheap or crap belt.
first bet is to check the bottom bolt on the tensioner. secondly if the tensioner squeals when it is wet the bearing is gone. thirdly if either of the above get it changed asap.
can't help with how to do the job since the local specialist changed mine during belt change because it was squealing.

He he he, I've done 6500 revs in 5th with a loose belt!!!! (But before you send out the men in white coats this was b4 I realised the belt was loose)
Access to the Mi16 cambelt is just awful!
But it will have to be done.
I would recommend people stay away from a car like this unless they are real enthusiasts, it certainly isn't one of those service once every 10000 miles cars.
