South Ribble council seem more keen to keep me away than encourage me back with more recycling / contribution to their compost generation business / free hardcore delivered to them at no cost.

Perhaps they'd introduce a "no claims" type arrangement if anything "thanks for not using what you're paying for"

If they did that here I'd have been line for maximum.... I managed to dodge a tip visit for a good five years up until this year and now I've blown that to bits

I'm such a frequent visitor I'll soon have my own reserved parking bay there

My youngest made several trips a day when she bought her current house and was known by her first name by the tip operators, who frequently came to help her unload.
They are always quite friendly and helpful there anyway though.

Much more a "the answer is no, now what's the question" vibe going on.

I don't go very often but they are always friendly and helpful to me too. Last time I dad glass, metal, wood, electronics, electrical, oil and plastic. They even took some of it to save me walking the length of the skip bays. One of the staff was even a very beautiful young woman.

That's our tip... About as friendly as a group of cornered rats... Which is unusual around these parts...

The appointment system is a great thing. No queues, no crowds and no hassle.. Our booking system is a doddle and entry to the tip is via ANPR. Shame the staff are a bit less than friendly...

Its still bit more relaxed up in Northumberland no ANPR just yet, but back in 2015 they did start to charge for stuff and require a bit of residential ID although they do get to know you and not as if you have to show it every time. Plasterboard/rubble/soil etc. all have a charge and there is a limit on stuff like tyres. Took a lot of stuff to the Newcastle tips back in 2019 when doing a bit of renovation, but I would expect they have moved on now both in charging and the ANPR and appointments stuff.

Hopefully that will help reduce the fly tipping which has gone mad in our part of the world since the charges began!!
As for the appointment system I have witnessed it working up at Jim's site but our new site has no need. It is without doubt the best recycling centre I have ever come across and has a very large parking capacity meaning I have never seen a queue like the old site. This little video shows what I mean:

I will have to see what happens at our LRC as it is operated by a private firm I have been known to take my waste 285 miles on occassions just to get rid for 'free'

We have never been charged for household waste - i.e. not a contractor.
We create an account with them and supply the registration number that they check off on a tablet, no ANPR yet. Also they send the booking info to the phone so you can show them that too.

They used to charge to collect large items of household waste, furniture, fridges and the like but then dropped the charges as fly tipping increased with Covid - any excuse.
There is a small charge levied again now. No charge if you take fridges and freezers to the tip yourself.
The tip is only five minutes away so I always take my own discarded items. Not so many others. Daft lass over the road has had a mattress outside for two months, collected yesterday, soggy mess
They have two cars so taking it themselves wouldn't have been a problem.
