Wow that's fantastic; at those prices its not worth shelling out £180 for a genuine one!

I'll check out my key and see if I can order a replacement one. I actually ordered a new key for my C3 from Aliexpress and it was perfect, so I might see if the same supplier can do one (this time time with PCB/transponder) for me. It also came with the new style curvy key shape :)

What is your VIN so i can look up your key, There are 2 different frequency variations ASK & FSK. If you pick the wrong type the transponder will program but the remote wont work.

I have done a bit more research, and it seems I am treating two subjects as one;

1) The unlock/lock alarm fob PCB.
2) The key/transponder which starts the car.

If I understand correctly, the unlock/lock fob can indeed be reused and the following sequence will setup the fob to unlock/lock the car. As far as I can tell you can also use a "used" fob for this purpose, and this may be why the used one's on Ebay have at least some use.

However the transponders seem to be "single use" and these need to be assigned to the car using the special Lexina the goddess of Citroen software and cable with opto-couplers and flux capacitors. I understand that generally speaking these are single use, and once setup to a car they cannot be re-used on a different car.

So I am tempted to buy a £15 used fob from Ebay, and a brand new transponder for a few quid (you can get them on Ebay and Aliexpress) and try my luck. I found an excellent Aliexpress supplier who cuts a key from a photograph; they key they cut for me works better than the original that came with the car, and it came with a nice case.

The only issue is I have not quite yet worked out exactly which transponder is right for my car...

I am hoping I have all that right... :-D
Can you share this Aliexpress supplier who you have been able to purchase cut key from a photograph ?

I am ever so sorry about the delay.... I should check updates more often

This is the seller:

This is the listing I used for Citroen C5 X7 key fobs.

This is the listing for the key cutting service.

They also do a PCB, which includes the transponder chip, but I have yet to try programming mine yet, so I am not sure how good they are. This is the listing:

I am ever so sorry I did not notice your message - in the end I ordered the fob from Aliexpress so I must have thought I had the right transponder

I guess we'll know when I get around to speaking to Citroen and getting my security number so I can give this a go...

If you know someone with fairly high-end code reader (not Diagbox though I think) then it might be able to retrieve the immobiliser code from the vehicle. My Xtool D8W can do this.

I think that when I ordered a replacement key fob it was ASK for my 2013 X7. It was 5 years ago so I could be wrong!
