508 U1113 Fault

Post by stefan535 »

Hiya Guys!
First of all I wanted to introduce myself, as I'm a new member. That's the end of the offtopic here.
I am a new owner of a 2012 508 2.0Hdi, and I came across a similar problem. One day the park brake failure occured, but after restarting the car everything was fine.
Two days later my father in law was trying to move the car, but he wasn't able to release the park brake, all sorts of errors came up:
park brake failure, abs/esp failure, active headlights failure, no connection to the fob (the car is keyless) and so on...
I only have a ELM327 cable (unfortunately K+D Can cable from my previous BMW doesn't work, nor the Opcom or vcds cable), but I managed to get the error codes:
U1113, U1218, P0500. I checked the 20A fuse on top of the battery, battery has been charged (it was fine, as it's 2years old oem battery), disconnected all of the ecu wiring, disconnected the abs module, but nothing works. I presume a BSI or ABS module failure, or at least some kind of 12v shortage but where to look for it? Car starts as usual, the keyless function works (despite the error on the dash),
I'm supposed to be going to the garage on Monday, but there is one thing that I hate... not knowing what's wrong, and what to expect! Could anyone help? Are the wiring diagrams for a X7 the same as for 508?

I've created a new topic for your 508 as it won't be relevant to post under the C5 X7. They are completely different vehicles.

If you want some help with the fault code, please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Thanks Marc,

I just thought that despite they are different cars, some faults and solutions may be the same :) anyway I look forward to some advice as I’m really close to ordering a new ABS module…

All these faults to do with the Hill start Assist, Electric Handbrake etc., are all symptoms of an issue with the ESP ECU. The last fault also states that it is not providing the vehicle speed from the vehicle wheel sensors. So I would investigate the connections from the ESP ECU and check the fuse.

I will put up a wiring diagram of the ESP system for you shortly, that may help with checking fuses too.

508 diag lamps.PNG
Fault Code: U1113
Description of Fault: Fault - absence of communication with the stability control (ESP) ECU: No signal. The dynamic stability control ECU is confirmed absent
Conditions for Fault to clear: -

Ok, so here is the wiring diagram, but I would first check the Electrical Supplies Protection & Management Unit (1032) as this has 2 fuses F7 & F8 that directly go to the ESP ECU.

If the fuses are tested and ok (don't just rely on a visual inspection), then it may be worth checking this unit as they can fail, before assuming it is the ESP ECU.

The Electrical Supplies Protrection Unit is here:
508 supplies.PNG
7800 is the ESP ECU
1032 Is the Electrical Supplies Protection & Management Unit

Hi Marc,
thank you so much for those diagrams, unfortunately I wasn't able to check them yet, as I'm a newbie when it comes to wiring and electricity
Maybe you'd be able to confirm if those two fuses (F7, F8) could be the ones inside the red oval? If so, then these are fine, they both have current going through them.
I know it's a long shot, but maybe you'd be able to shed some light on the next issue: should the ones in the yellow oval be live with the ignition off? I have checked those ones as well, but they seem to be... dead :?

They should be marked on the metal, the picture above is covered in dust so hard to read from the picture.

F7 40A
F8 20A

From what I can see on the metal, but the pictures are so bad I may be wrong. Try cleaning it up so I can read them.

Yellow Circle From bottom Up

Green 40A = F11
Yellow 60A = F4
Yellow 60A = F9
Brown 70A = F13
Pink 125A = F3
Unknown
Grey 60A = F5
White 80A = F15
Brown 70A = F2?
Green 40A = ?

So sorry to bother you, but maybe you know where exactly is the ESP module? I can follow the wires, but it would be much easier... :-D

And so it seems both of the fuses are fine. So no luck there unfortunately. I was trying to locate the esp module, but got my hands on something that (according to Google) is the glow plugs relay. I presume the esp module itself will be under the ecu/bsi tray. I think I will leave it till Monday, and show it to a proffesional

The ESP ECU is the item in blue in the diagram (click the diagram to zoom it) - it is attached to the top of the hydraulic block.

So a quick update. Car's been in the shop from Monday, and still no luck. Mechanic said that his hands are tied right now,
but next Monday one of his mates (who deals with electronics) will be back nad he's going to fix it. The presumption is something's wrong with the loom itself,
but more news to come after the weekend... I'm back to driving my good old Astra for the time being

So after three weeks (!) in the shop, I got the car back. The diagnosis was… God knows. Apparently they took the whole loom out in order to check if it was the CAN bus causing the problem, got all of the modules to swap them over just to see what’s wrong, but in the end everything worked as it should. Hopefully it was just some kind of a loose connection or something. Car runs like a dream, but it hasn’t been fixed in any way, nothing has been replaced… just started working again. Hopefully it won’t happen again. Thank you for your help!

In many cases it can be a pin on the connector that is loose or the connector not making contact or a wire not well secured to the pin that can cause a problem - vibration from the car on the road can make it intermittent. Hopefully the taking off and replacement of the loom has sorted - it but if it happens again you know where to look!
