P2101 P3010

Unread post by 508c5 »

Hello,

I have these two codes pop up every now and then (and car goes into limp mode). How likely is this a result of a malfunctioned throttle body rather then electric harness or BSI ?

After clearing the codes the car comes back to life and it takes days or weeks before the faults pop up again

P2101 - control of the motorized throttle motor overheating or overpowering
P3010 - Motorized throttle motor control fault Regulation fault.

Peugeot 508, 1.6L PETROL, 156BHP, 222000km.

Thx

My personal take... 5% harness, 95% throttle body, and pretty much 0% its the BSI

The BSI won't have anything to do with it, but the engine ECU will - as it is this that will put the engine into downgrade mode whilst the faults are active.

So If you've checked the electrical connections / power, then the common factor is the motorised throttle body as FishHo suggested.
Fault Code: P2101
Description of Fault: Control of the motorised throttle motor: Overheating or excess current.
Possibility 1: Detection of an excessive consumption of current on the motorised throttle housing control stage
Possibility 2: Overheating on the control part of the motorised throttle housing
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: Engine management ECU in main triggering phase.
Conditions for Fault to clear: The following conditions have to be met (For at least 12 seconds)
- engine running
- No motorised throttle housing programming in progress
- Motorised throttle housing power stage not cut
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Limitation of engine speed
  • Cutting of the injection if the engine speed goes above maximum
  • Deactivating the cruise control
  • Test of the springs, programming and anti-icing strategy deactivated
  • Natural opening position of the motorised throttle housing
  • Cut in the injection carried out if the actual fill in air of a cylinder is above the reference fill
  • Deactivation of the turbo
  • Inlet camshaft dephaser deactivated
  • For a gearbox with engine speed regulation (automatic gearbox or piloted manual gearbox), limitation of the torque sent to the gearbox
  • Air conditioning cut-off
  • Deactivation of the motorised throttle housing actuator test
Symptoms:
  • Starting difficult
  • Unstable idling
  • Idle speed too high
  • Lack of power
  • Engine hesitation
  • Without any butterfly fault, no customer impact
Suspect Areas:
  • Engine ECU
  • Motorised throttle housing
  • Electrical harness

Fault Code: P3010
Description of Fault: Motorised throttle motor control: Regulation fault. The required butterfly position cannot be attained: Maximum variation (For more than 5 s).
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- Engine management ECU in main triggering phase
- Activated as soon as the butterfly is supplied
Conditions for Fault to clear: The following conditions have to be met (Return to the permitted operating ranges)
- engine running
- Unit initialisation not active
- Confirmation time 12 s
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Natural opening position of the motorised throttle housing
  • Cut in the injection when the engine speed goes above the maximum engine speed
  • Deactivation of the cruise control
  • For a gearbox with engine speed regulation (automatic gearbox or piloted manual gearbox), limitation of the torque sent to the gearbox
  • Air conditioning cut-off
Symptoms:
  • Starting difficult
  • Unstable idling
  • Idle speed too high
  • Lack of power
  • Engine hesitation
Suspect Areas:
  • Motorised throttle unit
  • Electrical harness

Thx

I see that the ECU may also be a "suspect" , is this likely?

It's listed as it's a possibility - but I can't tell you that on a Forum - at least you have some points to investigate.

thanks

today another fault popped up - P061F - motorized throttle motor control fault coherence - does this shed some more light...?

With that latest fault code it is certainly pointing towards the motorised throttle:
Fault Code: P061F
Description of Fault: Motorised throttle motor control: Coherence. The open cycle ratio exceeds the thresholds: 80% in the opening phase of the throttle and - 80% in the closing phase of the throttle, for 0,6 s.
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- Engine management ECU in main triggering phase
- Battery voltage more than 8 V
- Not in initialisation phase
- Throttle active
Conditions for Fault to clear: The following conditions have to be met:
- Switch the ignition off and then on again
- The open cycle ratio stays within the range (-80% ; 80%)
- engine running
- Motorised throttle valve programming
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Natural opening position of the motorised throttle housing
Symptoms:
  • Stalling at idle
  • Engine hesitation
  • Cutting out under load
  • Flat spot on acceleration
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Motorised throttle unit
  • Electrical harness

replaced the throttle body and for over a week no fault has popped up, we'll see
