New Battery for Grand C4 Picasso

Unread post by Matchbookfail »

Hello, Im new to the forum so please forgive if I break any etiquette

I have a Grand C4 Picasso, Petrol 1.2l PureTech Auto, 2017. Which, as I understand it, is a reasonable rare combination of engine/gearbox/car.

We are getting regular 'Energy Economy mode active' alerts which as I understand it means we require a new battery. Is there a particular Brand or model I should be using, or others to avoid?
I have come across these so far:
Yuasa @ £178
Halfords @ £175 (or £140 with my Tradecard :)
I notice the halfords own one has a 5 year warranty, but I would assume the fine print would rule out every reason for using this.

Also I have seen the fitting guide Here which looks great, thank you @GiveMeABReak

Is the radio coding handled by the ECU or do I need to be aware of anything else with my car?

thanks in advance

Hi

As for batteries, get the same specification and type as the one fitted to your car in terms of power / CCA and type (AGM, EFB) etc. The vehicle has a battery charge monitoring ECU that will be programmed for at least a certain level of battery and type, so don't go under the specs of what you have. If you let me have your VIN I can advise as to the recommended spec and type.

Regular economy / energy management mode will often be because the battery may be 5 years old or over and they will lose their original capacity over time. So although you may not have starting issues, it can be insufficient for supplying the power requirements for the vast number of electrical systems used on the vehicle. Glad you have found the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure. As for brand, YUASA may be a little more expensive, but they are well-recommended here by Forum members as a replacement.

As for your vehicle's head unit, you won't need to do anything regarding coding. The telematics / Audio units are VIN coded to the vehicle and remain coded regardless of battery disconnection. You may need to reset your climate control settings and the date / time, but just have a visual check over your preferences to make sure they are all setup as required. If you have a telematics unit, you may find the time and date may be synchronised with the GPS, but I find the settings are not actually accurate in all cases.

Ok, so you need a 760A/70AH battery. Get an Enhanced Flooded Battery type.

Thanks Marc, is an AGM battery better than EFB? The YUASA liked in my original post was this type

The system is designed to work with an Enhanced Flooded Battery, so I would stick with this as AGM batteries generally have different charging requirements, for example a standard alternator may put out 13.8V – 14.4V. AGM batteries generally require 14.6V - 14.8V, so if they are not getting this, they will gradually become undercharged.

It's what happened to mine on my X7. The battery never got properly charged, so ran down slowly and I had to keep charging it overnight from the mains smart charger periodically. So on my Aircross that does have Stop Start, I've left the standard EF battery (although this was recently replaced under warranty as it dipped below the Stop Start threshold for operation.

I thought I would update this thread with what I bought:
Bosch S4E08 - car battery - 70A/h - 760A - EFB technology - adapted for vehicles with Start/Stop system - Type 096

I ended up getting it from Amazon, delivered for only £128 which I thought was pretty good
Link for reference https://amzn.eu/d/dJWb1zT

Thanks again for all the help

Hi, sorry to jump on the post but was wondering what battery I would need if possible. My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. I bought the car last month from a dealer and he said the car was dead when they went to service it in the morning g so just used one they had lying around so can't really just buy a like for like one. TIA.

Ok, so be aware that you have the Stop Start system with energy accumulator (ultra-capacitor) that recovers energy through the braking system. All this is hidden behind the rear front passenger side wing. But as for the standard battery in the engine compartment, you need an AGM battery (L3-70AH-760A-AGM). Don't try and use a standard battery as it won't last as long and is not designed for the vehicle's systems.

Hello

Is it important to have the exact same type of battery? I could not find any readable markings on the one fitted to the car and when shopping online most shops give you a mixture of AGM and EFB at different prices.
There is no mention of the battery type in the manual or anywhere.
Marc if possible can you have a look for me as well? VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I wish they put some stickers or something like they do with aircon gas on some vehicles

You need 760 CCA AGM type battery. I would recommend Yuasa brand.
On some PSA cars now if you look at the label with the tyre pressures on it it also tells you the type of battery fitted.
