Berlingo B9 Multispace Front Bumper... Corner?

Unread post by NotAnInterestingName »

Someone decided to pull out on me, now have a dented front corner to sort out...

It needs a wing, I wondered if it might pull out but there's a kink towards the back of the arch where it's folded due to being pushed back...

Also needs a headlight, a side indicator (popped out, snapped its clip) and possibly a DRL, I think it may have had its clip snapped.

I thought the bumper was OK, but there are grazes and these stress cracks in the paint...

...which looks like the paint will now start peeling off as it's cracked and detached. It's also scratched, so needs paint at least. But it couldn't be rubbed down as it would then lose its original texture, it's paint over a leather-like textured plastic.

So I hoped it would be just a bumper corner, looking at the fact that the corner is painted and the rest not. I've seen that vans have a one-piece bumper, but was hoping that the Multispace bumper may come in separate parts?

Is the corner a separate piece, or do they really mask off the centre and paint just the corners at the factory?

Ouch! I was going to say for their insurance to sort out, surely - but then they would probably just write it off! Best bet would be bits in colour from a breaker. Post up the VIN and we can find the details of the bumper there are several different variants - but it looks like the main part is all one piece across the front.

Thank you for your reply.

First estimate is just under £4k. Webuyanycar says it's worth £4600, so hopefully just repairable.

I can't believe it, but the bumper is actually part-painted. I think it's the standard builders van bumper plus a splash of paint. Here's the masking tape line, all as done at the factory - we've had this since new, never crashed...

Those crazy french car designers!

The estimate includes a new bumper. I'm assuming they're going to do the same crazy paint job, but I suppose it's no big deal as they'll be painting the wing anyway, plus blend-spraying into the door. They don't touch the bonnet, they say a slight mismatch on a corner isn't visible. Besides, it's black, so hopefully colour match isn't going to be an issue.

You'll be surprised how many shades of black there is plus there'll need to take into account the colour fade from the sun over the years. Might be better off fitting a bumper bra like they fit on bonnets

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

I'm thinking black might be pretty forgiving. It's plain black, no mica or metallic bits in it.

I know white is an absolute sod to match, but is black really normally an issue?

It definitely needs fixing, the bumper's sticking out. I think it's lost the bracket that should hold it in. But it sticks out less than the mirror so I say it's still OK to drive. I've put some duct tape over the corner of the headlight, it's outside of the beam anyway, but it definitely needs a new one. The wing's absolutely mashed, way beyind repair.

I'm just leaving the dipped beam on all the time, as the right DRL is currently pointing anywhere as its clip has snapped. It's not going to fall out, it's bouncing about behind the bumper though.
