How to block the flywheel on Expert/Dispatch/Jumpy/Scudo ?

Unread post by gaspaccio »

Hi,

(Video link below for better understanding)
Is it the hole where you can block the flywheel? I am not sure because it is set up in a way I can't insert a drill, there is not enough space to insert it straight.

Maybe I need something curved or bent?
This is strange because on other vehicles with this engine (1.6 hdi) people just insert a 10mm drill in the flywheel hole and it's fine.

Or maybe it is not the right hole?
Thanks for your help

That hole is to immobilise the flywheel for loosening the crank pulley bolt only.
It is not for setting the valve timing. If you are want to set the valve timing to change the timing belt you need to remove the crank pulley & there is a small hole on the engine speed sensor pick up to set the timing.
If it is just for locking it to loosen then not sure if I would use a drill bit, way too brittle. The proper factory tool is much shorter but if i remember right you still need to loosen off the exhaust flexy pipe.
Or look at jamming the teeth above the driveshaft.

Hi wheeler thanks for your help. It's for thightening the Damper pouley to torque, after replacing the cam belt.
The drill is one for metal, 10mm one, everybody use this around me it should be fine. But I dont know how I can insert it in this hole, given this is the right hole, not sure.
Thanks

I cannot say for your engine, but on my DW12 2.2HDi, for cambelt tensioning the flywheel is locked with an angled pin . As your photo suggests, there is not enough space to fit a straight pin (eg drill). I use a long bolt of the correct diameter held by locking pliers.

Thank you much. Yep I think I am going to use a curved pin. So according to you this hole is the right one to block the flywheel?

You can buy a tool to screw into the crankshaft holes or belt guard holes, I forget.

DW10 & DW12 are a totally different setup from the DV6 engines. Even on DW10/12 the flywheel hole is just for setting the timing & should not be used to tighten or loosen the crank bolt as its just a little lug that's spot welded on & can easily be snapped off if torque is applied to it. On the old XUD engines it was just a hole drilled directly into the flywheel so (although you are not supposed to) could be used for loosening the crank bolt.
As for getting the pin in the DV6 engine, just un clamp the exhaust flexy pipe & use a shorter pin.

Thanks Wheeler I will do this. From what I understood there are 2 holes that allow to block the FW, the one I showed and another one behind the starter. I will use this one with a shorter pin/bolt or a curved allen key. Thanks
