Citroen C5 X7 suspension won't raise help!

Unread post by nomad123 »

Hi guys!
Please help!
After a bit sporty drive the front of the car has lowered a bit. It is no longer reacting to height inputs. After 5min of driving Suspension faulty max speed 90 message appeared.
Using Lexiabthe following errors appeared:
C1141 Front height adjuster
U1118
U2118
So i have decided to change Front height adjuster.
I bought new one from myparto website, part number 5273J4
https://www.myparto.com/de/i21947/citro ... ren-5273j4

After changing it I started a car but it won't raise. Its not reacting to height inputs and pump motor cannot be heard.

The car is now in a very low position already and after deleting fault codes from lexia I have decided to drive for a bit in order for the car to show new fault codes which it did, but now fault code was related to Rear height adjuster faulty.
I took rear height sensor from my friends Citroen c5 2005 and replaced mine but the car is still not reacting to height inputs and it wont raise, motor from the pump is not working.
We have also checked 40a fuse and its not blown.
Image fixed

So basically we are stuck now and dont know what to do.
Any help is appreciated 🙏
Thanks!

The most likely problem is the pump motor has got a build up of conductive sludge which has then caused the 40A maxi fuse to blow. This is not picked up by a Lexia, as the motor is not monitored by any ECU. Because of this the suspension ECU ('believing' the pump is working) then 'thinks' a sensor has failed because the required height was not achieved within an expected period of time.

The problem occurs when any split LDS fluid mixes with the carbon dust in the motor (which has 4 brushes). The result is a sludge that has a conductive property, which then draws more current until the fuse blows. It is possible to clean the pump motor (using brake cleaning fluid), but it does take a few hours (and needs you to jack the car up so you can remove the offside front wheel). There are guides on the Forum on how to remove, clean and refit the the pump assembly. I personally experienced this issue last year.

Thanks for the replay!
I have checker maxi fuse box and on MF8 location is 80a fuse???
It should be 40a right?
MF8 is for the suspension pump?

We have also tested the votage of main power supply jack that goes to the pump and its shows no voltage. Herr are the pictures.

The orange fuse in the last photo is 40A, and this should the the suspension fuse. There is a relay in the circuit (which, on my C5 Facelift, was close to the offside suspension strut, but I do not know where it will be on an X7), and that was OK on my car.

On my C5 the fuse had been replaced with a 60A, which (over time) caused the motor windings to burn out (so DON'T fit a heavier fuse to keep you mobile!). As a result I had to get a replacement from the scrapyard (which had also failed for the same reason, but had not burnt out). I striped and cleaned out the motor, re-assembled everything, replaced the maxi fuse (with the correct strength), and she was then up and running (OK, it was more involved than that, but you get the point). Brake cleaning fluid and a toothbrush were ample in removing the sludge.

The BHI is not communicating with the BSI, which is why you are getting the U codes which are all communication issues between the systems.

See what happens if you get the pump operational, but this may still leave you with some other issues.

The relay on the X7 is located on the wing beside the pump. I'll put up a photo of it once I've found my old thread about my pump.

Have a look at page 4 of the above link scroll down and you will find a photo of the relay it's brown in colour.

It is unlikely that the relay will have failed. However, going by the gunge in that area convinces me that the pump motor will have the conductive sludge, causing the problem. When you remove the reservoir and pump you will be able to clean up that area at the same time as cleaning the motor.

So we have removed the pump unit and tried to give it power directly from the battery and it doesn't work. Here it what is looks like when cap is opened.

Well 'sludged' up. Give it a nice clean with brake cleaning fluid and a toothbrush and (assuming the windings have not burnt out) it will be good for another 10 years or so. You will want to slide the outer casing off, so you can give the windings a thorough cleaning as well.

So the problem was 40a fuse after all.
I have also replaced my hydro pump with a used one from 2.0hdi 103kw estate model.
I have programmed it to Saloon via Lexia.
I hope it won't make any problem in suspension behavior since its from estate model and not from Saloon.
