DS3 1.2 HNP oil

Unread post by ru1p3dro »

Hello, I have a Ds3 from 2019 with 1.2 engine with engine model NHP(EB2ADT).
I contact DS to have car maintenance plan to see what I need to change and saw that the recommended oil for this motor is 0W20 with b71 2010 specification.
Since I have the car all the maintenance was on a DS authorized shop, and they always put Total INEOS First 0W30 on my car.
I ask DS customer service about that and the contact the repair shop that said they receive an internal note on July 2022 saying my motor should use 0W30 instead 0W20.
I already tried search online for this information but without success, so anyone know anything about this? If I really should continue use 0W30 or need to change to 0W20.
PS: I check Total website and they still recommend 0W20 to my car.
VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Thanks for help.

If they have changed the oil specification, then they have not made the changes on their database - which specifically states the oil specification you have listed above for this vehicle.

I would of expected them to have made the change so that independent operators are also aware of this - or for that matter Citroen Service personnel as let's face it, who is going to remember to look at a letter when your car is being serviced? They will check the service schedule and that remains the same EM:00W20 B71 2010 - 00W20 B71 2010 (C5).

So changing it from 0W20 to 0W30 means that the higher the last 2 numbers, the easier it is for the engine Oil to withstand high temperatures and remain viscous. So it remains thicker at higher temperatures.

I'd ask why they have not made that information known to customers and indeed on Citroen Service if that is the case as this would have a significant impact car warranties if they have changed the oil grade without informing all concerned parties...

The strange thing is they put 0w30 on my car since 2020, and DS said the internal note is only in 2022...
The other two motors 1.2 I think use that 0w30 oil, so they just don’t check and put the same oil on mine?
I just don't know which one I should buy...
Thanks for help :P

No problem - we know there are potential issues with timing belts on these engines, so service must check the condition of the timing belt at each service interval. If anything, I would expect the thicker oil at hotter temperatures to give more 'sticking' properties where it is needed.

Remember that your timing belt on this engine must initially be replaced at 6 years or 100k kms, then after that every 12 years or 200k KMs.
