Thought I knew County Durham like the back of my hand Jim, but I don't know where that "tunnel" was taken (apart from being within Citrojim running distance of the Lambton Worm!

You could of course run up to Beamish if you headed in the opposite direction!

Some excellent old railway footage of the very heavy goods trains that used to make their way up to the Consett Iron Company. Worth a watch only a minute or so!

The line up to Consett which now forms part of the Coast to Coast Cycle route, had some steep gradients, which required some power to haul the heavy iron ore and coal trains up from Tyne Dock, or the "Torpedo" trucks of Molten Steel up from Teesside for processing at Consett.

With a little bit of moisture on the rails coming up past Beamish, the 1 in 35 gradient, caused the double-powered trains to struggle with the steam train doing much puffing and panting, and the diesel helping out at the back with a touch of the squealing wheels. Only a minute or so watch, worth giving it a go.

Only had rain here at night so far, so hasn't spoiled our nice weather. Not enough rain though.

We had the heaviest rainstorm I have ever experienced on our drive down the A1(M). Trucks heading north in their nearside lane were sending massive fountain like spray over the centre reservation and onto my car roof and screen completely blinding us momentarily on many occasions.
Jim took some pictures and video which I believe he will post tomorrow!!
