Car usage.

Unread post by Gibbo2286 »

I sat in the dentist's waiting room for about 45 minutes this mid-morning with a full view of the town high street, cars going in a steady stream in both directions, did a bit of a count up, easy as they've imposed a 20 mph limit.
Out of a hundred cars eighty two were driven by women and all of them sole occupants. :o

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the young mums brigade generally accepted way of going anywhere is to drive!! Sad but there it is. :?

I recently spent a week in the ar5e end of Germany and it struck me at the time how few cars were in use as we drove around. You go through a villiage and you'd be lucky to see anyone doing anything on the main street - it was all so eerily quiet. Even going into a main town it was easy driving, and we left one town roughly around what might be considered rush hour and it was like a Sunday. Very strange. :-k

One of the benefits of driving my pick-up truck is that it's always used to at least 50% occupancy

I'm not familiar with Germany's anatomy so I am curious as to which bit that is? :-D My daughter living in Ingleheim certainly would not fit that bill to my knowledge! :?:

Coincidentally I was walking in Durham this evening, not the town centre but a but more rural, mostly in a forest but about half a mile on a busy road and noticed that the majority of the cars were driven by women, also not one electric. Only seen two today, one this morning and one a few minutes ago on my street, delivering food.

I observe this every day school is in session in my little road... The difference in traffic levels when schools are on holiday is staggering..

Is this the we hate women drivers topic, If so  bring it on!! If it's just a case of noticing daily drivers and their habits..... I have noticed alot of people have forgotten how to 'walk' short 10 to 15mins journeys. Also the shortest rounded people drive the biggest vehicle they can find...

At the risk of being shot at dawn, I had lunch with my mate Bob and his son Paul, an electrician, today and Paul told us about an incident that happened to him last week. He was installing a floodlight over a customer's front drive when the lady of the house came home from shopping. She pulled up outside the house and came over and asked Paul if he would mind reversing her car onto the drive for her as "my reversing camera is broken!" :-D

Absolutely not, far from it.
Some of the best drivers I have met have been astounding, not trained racing/rallying drivers, just ordinary girls and women.
And the average has been in favour of women, although there are clearly departures from the desired level but that applies equally to men, me included (not really).

I agree that far too many will use their car for a short journey where walking would be a better option, as with a lot of those taking their kids to the local school.
It takes longer to get them strapped in the car, drive to school, park (when they bother), unstrap the kids, take them into the school and drive back and park, where it would be quicker to walk with them.

There are shops near the school and I often see folks drive to the shop for a loaf of bread or bottle of milk. Takes five minutes there and back walking.

Ladies I've found are generally better drivers than men and the reason we are seeing more of them on the road is because men on the whole are too lazy to do the necessary training to pass the test.
I did have one young lady customer who would not wear her seat belt despite me telling her repeatedly that she would come to grief. One day she was sitting at a halt sign, a truck coming from the opposite road had some sort of failure came straight across and hit her head on, she had metal plates and 400 stitches to reconstruct her face.
