2014 Grand C4 Particle Fluid Error

Unread post by spagy86 »

Hi all,

Topped up the particle fluid after getting a warning on the dash, no problem, easy job.

I've since taken it to two different garages to reset it, however the option to reset doesn't show on their diagnostic equipment (snap on and delphi).

Spoke to a citroen service place this morning, and started talking silly money (£250+) to run diagnostics and saying someone else may be wrong with it.

My question is - does this sound right, or should I just purchase the software and connections etc to reset it myself??

Really appreciate your help :).

Many thanks.

A couple of things:

1) Citroen charge a standard fee of £120 inc. VAT for up to 1 hour of diagnostic time - shown here on their current website for confirmation:
https://www.citroen.co.uk/maintain/fixe ... pairs.html
2) It depends on what the fault or more importantly if there is a specific fault code. It may be that there is a fault in the additive pump - we won't know this without the diagnostic codes (if any).
3) Aftermarket diagnostic tools may not have all the functionality of a dealer-level tool and will also depend on whether the independent garage updates their software (which can be costly) in order to keep up with the later vehicles and engine management systems.

Lastly, there ca be issues resetting the additive counter on some Engine Management Systems with some vehicles, requiring the procedure to be done in several places for it to work.

So you may want to call your dealer and query the charge in light of the website charges - tell them you want the additive counter reset and see what they say.

Thank you, really appreciate your help. If there was another fault, I'd be happy to repair myself, especially when the chap on the phone mentioned £1500 for a new additive tank!

Appreciate what you are saying about aftermarket diagnostic tools. They use diagbox which is available to purchase and lots on here use it. Would you not rate it??

Sounds to me like Cit has confused the PAT fluid with AdBlue, which is not a ringing endorsement! If you are even slightly IT and vehicle DIY competent (since you refilled the tank, suggests you are) then £100 spent on a Lexia diagbox interface is a good investment - it's less than the cost of a single diag session as you have found out. Caveats...it's not the easiest to get it to install, it's not that easy to use, and there is the potential to really mess things up if you do the wrong thing. If you join the Facebook group you can download an operational version of 9. something on a virtual platform that makes installation easy. Get yourself an adaptor, and the software up and running, and then we can help guide you to how to re-set the light, or figure out if there is something else wrong with it.

Do you know what - he did mention AdBlue and I corrected him! Definately computer literate and my father in law (who lives next door) is a mechanic so can help me with fitting anything :).
Thanks for your help all.

Any particular chipset I should be looking for with the connections?

You mentioned Snap On and Delphi in your post, hence my response about these tools. Diagbox is the software that the dealership use, along with the VCI (hardware), but you'll also need a laptop.

Thanks Marc - now I understand where you were coming from :). Any recommendations or link to a good cable with the correct chipset?

The private messaging system requires new members to make some posts first (I therefore have not received them) and secondly discount is discretionary to prevent members registering only for a discount:

I was just advising as to why I probably haven't received your messages - I still have nothing from you in my inbox, so please make sure you have spelt my username correctly.

If you click the three dots next to the word 'Contact' and then click the small balloon that opens up just above that will take you straight to the PM board with Marc's username already filled in.

Thanks so much for your help. Got the cable now. Can anyone provide a link to a good install? Do they all have to run on a VM?

Update - managed to get Diagbox up and running. Going through the maintenance section, I get to the option for the additive tank refill (in different words on Diagbox). I select it, then it just says communications error. Any thoughts? The only fault on the ECU is the additive level.
