2001 C5 2.2HDi - DPF replace and Lexia

Unread post by aspire_helen »

Quick question. I replaced the DPF/FAP today . Do I have to update Lexia, or carry out a forced regeneration etc? I know it is normal to update the additive count if that has been added, but does the car need to know its got a new DPF.
I replaced the DPF because yesterday I got the “clean diesel filter as soon as possible” message. As the DPF had done 120,000miles, and I had bought a new spare a few years ago just for the occasion, it seemed churlish not to comply, especially as Lexia confirmed “particle filter overloaded” with a pressure drop of 335mbar – see photo.
Thanks

Yes you do! Otherwise the Engine ECU will not know you have done this.

Go into replacement parts or Repair section and locate it there.

Thanks Marc
Ah so, it appears that when renewing the DPF only (ie without adding additive) the value of the amount of additive that has passed through the DPF has to be reset to zero. It seems a clumsy way of telling the car it has a new/clean DPF!

As the additive system hasn't worked for years (ive added it to the tank manually on every diesel top-up), I do not intend to touch Lexia's additive options, not even reset the relevant faults.

There are separate settings, but yes, ideally these operations should be done together, because the engine ECU counts up the amount (in weight) of Cerine deposits that will have been dumped into the filter based on the amount of additive injected into the fuel tank.

So if you have replaced the DPF you need to tell the engine ECU that has been done and also top up the DPF additive and reset the additive counter too. That way you have a full tank of additive and a clean DPF - sorted.

On early C5s the additive counter was a separate ECU (EAS200) located in the front of the vehicle (usually in an obscure place behind the glovebox) and these were renowned for failing or being unable to be reset - so has to be replaced when the additive was topped up. They weren't too expensive to replace.
