1.6 HDI no power

Unread post by steve182 »

Hi everyone, hope someone can help.

I've got a 207 sw 1.6 HDI that lost power the other day. Hardly pull you out of bed type of lost power. took off the engine cover and noticed that the middle two injectors are badly coked up, possibly the washers are seeping.

I know this is normally clutch clipping but there are no signs that the clutch is slipping. The peddle moves normally, no noises or grinding etc.. and gear changes go smoothly. I have a diagnostic tool that has given an error p1351 which I believe points towards glow plug issue (although I have read this fault can show up in a glitch too). I don't want to spend a fortune on this so I'd be interested in hearing peoples thoughts on where to start.

Thanks in advance.

Check all pipes from the turbo are intact. Is the engine management light on? If you can get lice data check the boost pressure / air flow. Not exactly unknown for these to eat the turbo, but it usually rattles. You can pop off the inlet hose and check for play in the turbo shaft.

Hiya Rich, thanks for the reply.

Engine management light is off. I'll check the boost pressure if my tester will allow that. I know it will show the air flow though so i'll definitly check that. I've had turbos go in the past (on Renault Trafic) and from what I remember there was a lot of smoke from the exhaust. If i'm stationary and rev the engine you wouldn't know that there was a problem.

Other things to note:
-If i'm in gear whilst stationary and release the clutch - the car will stall.
-No nasty rattling although it does have that diesel 'ticking' sound that you often hear.
-Starts first time.
-I drove it to work and although i had to slowly build up the speed - it got me there fine. The revs definitly go up a lot faster than the speedo. Gear changing was fine.
-I've left it in 5th gear with the handbrake off and I can't push it.
-The tester I have it https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08XY4H2CJ? ... ct_details

Thanks again all

Does it have a dpf?
EGR could be stuck.
Clean MAF.
Check electrovalves are getting vacuum and vacuum lines are leak free.
As above, make sure turbo pipes are intact.
Try to get someone to do live readings with a Lexia, it is the best tool to diagnose Peugeots..

I've unplugged the MAF sensor and it runs the same. I can't get hold of a Lexia, I booked someone in to come out and diagnose thinking he would have the correct tools and he just said its the turbo, without testing. so now I'm really confused. The garage that only does injectors is saying its the injectors, the garage that doesn't do injectors is saying its the clutch and the mobile mechanic is saying its the turbo.

The readings I can get from my diagnostic tool are as follows

Airflow from MAF sensor 5.73 g/s
Engine coolant 68C
RPM 756
Fuel rail pressure 25000 kPa
Intake air temp 44C
Intake manifold absolute pressure 100kPa

these were all taken at idle

@ 1500 rpm, airflow from MAF sensor is 10.4 g/s & fuel rail pressure is 48000
@ 2500 rpm, airflow from MAF sensor is 24 g/s & fuel rail pressure is 56000

Ok, quick update.

I've got the car back together and it is idling perfectly. Injector 3 was faulty so I've replaced it and the EGR intake pipe and the intake manifold were clogged so they've been cleaned. However the problem's still there.

Today I thought I'd dis assemble the clutch but before I took it apart I noticed that the transmission fluid was seeping from the drain off nut. from what I read, low transmission fluid could cause the issue I've been having. My question is... do you think I might get away with topping up or do you think the damage has been done and the gearbox needs replacing? The gears are changing fine and the engine hasn't been stalling.

confusing though, because there hasn't been a low transmission light come on.
