Lower engine mount

Morning all,

Car is a 57 plate c4 grand Picasso 1.6 hdi automatic

I need to replace the lower engine mount, the one where the driveshaft runs through it, I am very competent with it but have slipped discs so just got a quote from the garage, they come back with they can’t do it as it’s an automatic? They can remove the fluid but couldn’t put it back as they don’t work with autos? So my question is, how do you put the fluid back in and how much? Is it going to be something you can do yourself or do you need specialist tools etc?

I'd avoid that garage then as they don't seem to be very competent if they can't replace the oil in an auto gearbox!

The oil can never be fully replaced, as only about 3 litres of the 7 litres can be removed, with 4 litres remaining in the torque converter. However, you need to ensure the correct gearbox oil is used and will need a diagnostic tool to reset the oil counter. You also need to use the diagnostic tool to advise when the gearbox oil is about 60 °C before draining it to ensure that all the debris suspended in the oil is removed as far as possible. There's a refilling procedure too to follow.

You may be better off in this situation getting a quote from Citroen who will have all the tools and expertise to do this properly given your situation though.

Which automatic is in that Marc, the AM6 doesn't need draining to remove the drive shafts you can pull them without losing the oil.

Ok, this is important info as you don't even have an automatic gearbox!

You have a piloted manual system which is a standard clutch and manual gearbox, that has hydraulic actuators to do the clutch and gear changes for you. So it's not a proper automatic and doesn't have a torque converter.

Haha well I never never really looked into that before…. So what does that mean in the sense of the fluid? Will it come out when I remove the drivers driveshaft?

It will be the same as for a manual box Alan and for this vehicle means draining the gearbox. On this gearbox after draining, it should require 2,1 ± 0,1 litres to fill, but it's recommended to measure the oil removed.
