How to get hold of Diagbox for my 2005 Peugeot 206 2L HDI Sport.

Unread post by vicr16663 »

I'm new to car diagnostics but not to electronics or computers.
My motor failed to start one morning and has been off the road since.
My Clarke 4501117 code reader now doesn't work, comes back with 'Link Error'. It seems to be working ok but isn't communicating with the car.
I'm learning fast and it seems that this cheap reader just isn't up to the job.
Preferably I'd like a full bells and whistles kit but can't afford the £000's for that.
Diagbox seems to be more in line with my requirements but getting hold of one, the right one for the car and for my laptop is confusing.
Laptop is lenovo thinkpad running windows 10 64bit but I could drop back to Win 7 or at a pinch if absolutely necessary XP in 64 or 32bit flavours.
Sockets are USB, Ethernet, eSATA/USB Combo connector, 54mm wide ExpressCard Slot.

Can anyone help guide me to where to obtain Diagbox, cables, manuals and software versions etc for the suitable kit please.
Also some idea as to cost of such system.
Local Peugeot quoted almost £2k to sort engine ECU and I can't afford that kind of money so Study and DIY called for, to get my drives like a dream very satisfying best friend back to full health.
I'm long in the tooth too but I've been fixing cars all my life but now they are electronic I'm lost.... temporarily!
Vic
Any assistance appreciated. Thanks

Forget Windows 10 64 bit. For your car 2005 you won't be able to run the encapsulated Peugeot Planet 2000 software that is launched for this year, as it was written in 16 bit code, not supported on 64 Windows.

Stick to a 32 Bit Operating system with Diagbox 7.58 - more than adequate as this covers vehicles up to about 2015.

'Lexia kits' are available - but you'll need to pay about £130 for a full chip kit from a decent UK supplier with your own laptop of course.

If your current Thinkpad with WIN 10 Pro 64Bit can be virtualised, then you could basically use it for VM software version 9.125 (as of 4/2022), for example.
This software is available free of charge from
https://www.psa-diag.fr/forum/index.php
Otherwise you should follow Marc's recommendations and find a good VCI at
https://www.easydiagnostics.co.uk/
- there you will get the right software that fits your laptop.
