Hi I've just bought a megane 2009 it has a rain sensor that doesn't work (if the stalk is set time auto it does nothing)
I've removed the sensor and I've always been under the impression there should be a gel pad between the sensor and the window but there wasn't.
Am I mistaken in this or should there be a gel pad?
Thanks

Re: Megane rain sensor missing gel pad?
It depends, mostly yes. The vehicle may have had a replacement windscreen and these are notorious for failing or reducing performance of the gel pad becomes milky after removing and reattaching.
However, without a gel pad (if there is one on your vehicle) this should if anything work better as there would be no opaque material between the sensor and the windscreen!
The other ting to check is if you actually have auto wipers, as the sensors can be for automatic lighting, automatic windscreen wiping or both. So it may be that you only have one function and not the other.
If you have an Auto switch on the light stalk, then leave it in this position and cover the sensor completely with some dark material and see if the lights come on. If they do then the sensor is working fine and it may be that you don't have auto wipers.

Re: Megane rain sensor missing gel pad?
thanks for your reply I'm pretty sure I have auto wipers because on the wiper stalk the first flick of stalk is labelled "auto"... This setting doesn't do anything and the next flick of the stalk is constant wiping. So it seems like what is labelled as auto replaced the intermittent settings you normally have.
The car also has auto lights and these are working fine so if the sensor is for both it seems it is working for the lights but not the rain
Thanks again
