C5 Mk1 2.0 HDi 110 brakes.

Unread post by Xantianut »

Ay up!

Otterchops' dad here.

After changing rear calipers and pressure bleeding all 4 corners, the brake, pedal remains depressingly low and feels a bit spongy.

I plan on Lexia bleeding 1st decent day we get but is there anything else that may be at fault? Bleeding revealed some rather dark fluid in the front brakes with a lot of air in the rear but I get solid, light coloured fluid from all 4.

I will check front slider pins while in there but any suggestions? Been many years since I worked on conventional brakes. Bleeding is easy with a BX or Xantia. Pop on the bleed tube, open the nipple, push the pedal and.......

.....job done!!

PS. Otterchops send her best!

I had similar with a Renault Clio a few weeks back. The pedal would push almost to the floor before offering any resistance or braking effect, even after full bleeding of primary circuit. So, i used a diagnostics (RS Tuner) to conduct an ABS bleed - twice, resulting in lots of aerated fluid out of the nearest calliper to the ABS block (other 3 were clear), and the brakes were fully restored.
I keep meaning to use my Lexia on my 2001 C5 to bleed the full system, but I am put off. The process appears to require both front callipers to be bled simultaneously, and then the two rear. I would be interested to know how you get on with your Lexia. Is there a written procedure? The RS Tuner came with no guidance whatsoever, so I wonder what Lexia does.

I was just going to mention your trials and tribulations with the Clio!

Pressure bleeder on the reservoir and then two lengths of plastic tub + jam jars = sounds ok to do two at the same time?

Hello, Friends!

It looks like Papa may have to change my rear brake lines. Again. He's got his BIG hammer all ready for me. He cut and shut the lines when he fitted the rear calipers but he thinks the joints are leaking. He does not much fancy removing the hard lines from the hoses but it,looks like he'll have to.

Thing is, he can't figure out how to,release the hose from the Clip!

Anyone help?

Love

Hello, Friends!!

Otterchops here.

I have the dreaded Handbrake Spong Fever. The RHS is not working at all and the LHS is weak. Apart from new callipers, does anyone know of a way to free them up? Papa tried greasing the rotating mechanism behind the strange tricorn bolt but that had no effect.

Apart from that, Papa is getting stuck into rebuilding my front suspension with new ball joints and drop links to cure the knock that’s driving him crazy.

Not that he takes much driving……

Love to all

Otterchops.
