Daytime Running Lights

On My 2012 Grand Picasso both the DRL's work fine when the headlights are off, however when i turn to sidelights, dipped lights on or main beam on, only the drivers side DLR works as it should.The other does not come on. Was wondering if someone could help.

On some models, the bulbs are dual filament, if that is the case on yours, maybe it is just a failed bulb

This model has LEDs for DRLs and there are no replaceable bulbs. If it's playing up, you need a new module.

Does the LED unit have an integral ECU that can control the brightness of the LED or is it fed the appropriate voltage by some external means? If the latter then the LED unit has already proved it's working fine in daytime circumstances and so unlikely to be at fault.

The LEDs do just reduce their brightness. The dual filament bulbs would be ordinary incandescent types, either halogen or plain vacuum.

As I said, there are no replicable bulbs. You need to replace the unit if this type, available from the dealer and specified in your owner's manual.

If you're referring to the side lights in the main unit, let me know and pop your VIN up so I can check the exact lighting system fitted, but the LED strip shown is LED and the same info applies. Not cheap new, a tad under £400 each. So may want to get a diagnostic done first to see if there is a fault on the circuit.

Yes but where is the control for the voltage going to the LEDs? If it's not incorporated in the LED unit then replacing the LED unit is likely to be waste of money.

As mentioned, I would need the VIN for that as it depends on which lighting system is fitted before I can check circuitry - however, taking a brief look, there is little to no mention of DRLs on the circuit.

Yes it’s the strip DRL as in your photo, just the passenger side doesn’t dim (it goes off)when lights are set to sidelights/beams however works perfectly when lights are off. My Vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Well something's not right here.... you stated in your first post that your vehicle was a 2012 model. The VIN provided relates to a 1.8 petrol built March 2008.... and shows no DRL fitted and highly unlikely so be a late registered vehicle by some 4 years.....

Unfortunately it's not much use as I suspected - there is no DRL circuit shown, so nothing I can confirm or otherwise. It's a bumper off job to access these too.

Do you think it would fail an MOT because of this, as my sidelights in the main unit don’t work and the drl’s illuminate at a less brightness (well the drivers side does). Even though both drl’s work when lights are not on?Is there an easy way of getting the two in the main unit to work as they both have bulbs. I think I read they are not wired up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
