I was drawn to this picture I stumbled across via the "AA Village Signs" thread posting from Maurice, and a search for an image of the closed Butchers Arms pub. This led to www.closedpubs.co.uk, and an image from Geograph duly posted on one of the "FCF has a thread for everything" threads "Pubs Gallery..and the odd Hotel".

A riveting browse and visual feast if ever there was one... viewtopic.php?p=748879#p748879

The image is of the Raby Castle Pub, Raby Castle itself of course being in Co Durham, so the name intrigued as to how it was selected for a pub in Hull. It could have been any number of places and on first viewing I thought the scene was probably Gateshead. You have also got the old cars, and the pub the last thing standing.

Agreed...

Three years ago, almost to the day, I was lying in something similar, still dressed in cycling lycra because I couldn't be moved... They had to fill me with Morphine to get it off me and even in my high state I was still gutted to see some £300-worth of Assos lycra succumb to the big scissors

Happily, except one finger being a bit dodgy and a neck that can't quite do what an owl's can I bear no scars, mental or physical.

On a happier note, an interesting skyscape across Bury Field early this morning... You can just about see Paggers church on the horizon...

I would agree with that. We took 'The Black Cat' along The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (known as "The Staffie") several years ago, and these were photographs I took at Tixall Wide.

When we were out on the canals I took a few photographs of some of the wildlife (and not so wild life). All of the photographs are my own work.

If you want something done do it yourself!

No originals today so a dip into the vault of geograph and its collection of creative commons stamped images. Has its own image of the day, this recent one caught my eye....has a bit of the Fighting Temeraire by Turner about it, the once proud locos being tugged for breaking up by a workhorse tug. The irony here is that the tug is older than the class 91's it is taking to the breakers!

Withdrawn Class 91s for scrap arrive at Newport Docks for ST3186
Class 37 locomotive No. 37510 waits for the gates to Newport Docks to be opened, with three withdrawn class 91 locomotives, Nos. 91125, 91115 and 91112, in tow. The 91s, which worked express trains on the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and Edinburgh from 1988, are on their final journey, coming from Doncaster for scrapping at Sims Metals' site in the docks. It seems somewhat ironic that these 35-year-old electric locomotives are being brought on their funeral run by a 60-year-old diesel.
