Yes seems likely. There was a small "colony" of it in the tank pickup pot, none in the main tank that I found.

This jar full won't have had the biocide treatment, so likely grew a good crop of it given a few months without disturbance in the garage :-D

Diesel can be quite mucky stuff Matt..

That deposit in the bottom looks very much like I've seen in diesel injection pumps I've stripped after being sat idle but full of diesel for a few years...

The water in it also starts a bit of corrosion off too...

Additions to the C5 job list:
  • clean/silicone spray the lazy driver's side seat belt
  • clean/ lubricate electric boot mechanism. Had taken to stopping on the downward journey, a little assistance and it does not stop - suggest it thinks is clonking me on the head but is just internal resistance
206 job list:
  • remove turbo and send it away for actuator adjustment or work out how to set it up myself. Had a new CHRA (central housing rotating assembly - I e turbine, compressor wheel and the oil feed bearing housing that sits between them) and it's never been right since the rebuild
  • fuel tank cap sensor, cough up the £200 for sensor+loom or try and bodge in a different PSA cap sensor (£40 or so)
  • maybe rear disks , or else clean them up

655 miles covered, 68.51 litres replenished.
68.51 l = 15.09 gallons.
43.4 MPG.

Happy enough with that. Onboard gauge actually under reading as it thought 38.7 MPG.

Interestingly, despite letting the pump click off three times when filling, this is how full the car thinks the tank is.

43.4 MPG is really rather good Matt!

Shows how efficient these engines are...

Yes I was pleased - especially as this is the first time I have had a car that underestimates it's economy!

Vast majority is motorway work which puts folks in mind of nice steady state cruise, the reality is some 70mph and lots less than that in the M6 perpetual roadworks! Computer also said average speed 29mph so gives a sense of the mix of moving swiftly and tedious traffic.

Up early as about 200mile round trip, Cumbria and back today. Should be no tedious traffic today with a bit of luck, once I am past Blackpool turn off even the M6 is generally very quiet. Just the right car for the job :)

Thanks Jim. Lovely quiet roads but flipping heck it was wet up there today!

Some more respectable values on the read out, had 42.2 mpg on screen after the first 50 minutes of the journey, 71mph cruise control up the motorway. Rest of journey is a mix of fast A road (some dual, some single) and rather slow, tight twisting A road, so does take the edge off. Obviously a second warm up cycle for the return as well.

Pretty happy with that. Will run the tank right down again then another refill. I'm curious if onboard estimate is consistently under reading or else the fuel station pump last time cut out early. Tank to tank brim full is susceptible to that error, but usually get a result the other way (worse than expected) on next fill.

So, as the forecasted rain hasn't yet arrived, thought it was time for a go at the towbar wiring.

Then it all seemed to go wrong! instructions say plug presume light-colored or white 6 pin existing plug into L3 new connector.

Can I find the damn thing, can I heck!?!

Top of the page is optional step for V6 HDi (so not needed on my 2.2 HDi) but this step isn't optional and there's four wires in that new socket. Doesn't feel right they wouldn't be connected. Ignoring the fact it appears to be saloon boot shown! There's no sign of this white connector in the circle area or anywhere else nearby I can find

Existing tail light connector plug into new socket L3
Existing tail light connector plug into new socket L3
So above is the only socket I can find in the vicinity which is direct fit in the supplied new socket however there's nothing in the kit which then plugs into to this now vacated turn light socket so that's not my not going to work!
