Source for a spare alloy wheel for a Xantia?

Unread post by pete_wood_uk »

Hi All
While getting my wheels balanced on Saturday, we found that one of them isn't round! Looks like it's been potholed before I bought the car - small chip in the outer rim, significant deflection in the inner rim. So it lacks the fundamental wheel property of roundness. It's not causing terminal shaking but it would be nice to get it fixed.
Citroen want £140 for a new 6J15 10-spoke 4-stud alloy (the boring design with rounded-profile spokes that look very much like a plastic wheel trim) for a 2000 HDi Xantia Exclusive Estate. My local breaker (BSL in Thriplow) hasn't got one.
Does anyone have any suggestions, ideally in the Cambridge / East Anglia area of the UK?
Many Thanks
Pete

Probably overkill for you, but there's a full set going on ebay just now:

Thanks, I just had a look. As you say, a bit overkill, and also a 200+ mile round trip to get them. Mind you, it's almost worth a speculative bid, but I'm not sure quite what I'd do with the other 3 :-). I notice he's selling the spare as well (other auctions...), so I dunno what happened to the rest of the car, unless he bought himself 5 flash allys.
Cheers

You could try here-http://www.edwardsandson.co.uk/, if Billericay in Essex isn't too far. Its about 50 mins from Cambridge.

They don't have centre holes in them so they'll cause a headache each and every time you need to get them balanced.

Ok I know you only need one wheel but!! As Kowalski has pointed out I doubt whether you will EVER EVER EVER get them balanced correctly as per original ..... I bet not many people know that they actually put the tyres on the rims and then grind the rubber surface to make them round!!

No centre hole balancing isn't a problem, just dont go to Kwik Fit. Head to a Peugeot Rapid Fit who can do these for £3 a wheel.

Thanks for the link to Edwards, I'll give them a call when I have a mo.
Yes, I know all about the lack of centre holes - a while ago I recommended "etyres.co.uk" on this forum, and unless I get a refund of some money from them soon (ie the money I've just had to pay to ATS to get the wheels rebalanced after etyres fitted and "balanced" some new tyres recently) I'll be "un-recommending" them fairly tersely.
Who are Peugeot rapid fit? Never heard of them. ATS just charged me 7 quid a wheel for sorting the mess out.
Thanks

I know a garage where I can get my wheels balanced for £1 each if the boss isn't in. If the boss is in it's a bit more expensive and unlucky.

I think my wheels are the same as yours (1997 V6). I dinged a rim on a curb last week, so If you get another set, I would be interested in a spare or 2. Conversely, if I stumble across a set, then I should have 2 or 3 to spare. I am in Royston.
