C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
Hi folks from reading the forum this is quite a common problem, i first had the warning come up just before Christmas (in dealer extended warranty), threw the car in for a service and a check, they came back with nothing and reset the system ...said my catalytic converter needs replacing tho.
Fast forward to last week dashboard lights up again as blue/emissions/service light .....top up ad blue no change ...I used my scanner to clear fault codes and that turned it off for the day but the light have since come back on.
I'm guessing it's the change tank injection problem.
My question is have I a leg to stand on as I flagged the fault before my warranty expired
Cheers

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
Possibly. You would have to show it was the same issue and that it has continued to be so. Youi haven't provided much info on the vehicle (mileage, age, exact C4 model), in fact it would be better to pop your VIN up so I can see exactly what you have (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).
If your car is 7 years or under, and it is actually the Adblue pump, these would appear to have a 7 year warranty on the tank, so all depends. If it would potentially qualify for a replacement or contribution towards, you would have no choice but to take it to the dealer for a diagnostic. As I've said in multiple posts on this subject that Citroen have to follow a guided diagnostic procedure in order to determine if it is the Urea pump in the tank that is at fault before they can themselves claim under warranty back from the manufacturer.
If the same warning lights are on then you can state that you had brought it to their attention the last time it was in. They may say if it has been a recurring warning coming up that you should of bought it in earlier - I can't say, so will depend on the history / circumstances.

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
Standard Citroen warranty is 3 years. 2 years manufacturer, and 1 year dealership. After that Citroen Extended warranty can be purchased annually if conditions are met.
So you may be in with a chance to get some help towards a replacement tank if this is in fact the cause. Don't assume it will be as there can be lots of faults related to the Adblue system. It could be a blocked urea injector which is a lot cheaper to replace - but it's unlikely this component itself will be able to be claimed if out of warranty as I believe only the actual tank assemblies are.

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
I don't believe it's something they advertise, but they have had issues with a load of these on early models. It really depends on the vehicle, the servicing history (vehicle must usually be services at the regular recommended intervals AND to the manufacturer's servicing requirement (whether this is via the Citroen network or an independent garage). Some have hat the cost coved in full, others a partial 60% contribution - it really does depend.
It's always worth ringing up Citroen HQ after seeing what the dealer will do.

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
Well, better than a tank!
Don't forget to consider using some Adblue Anti- Crystallisation additive (Forte and Wynn's both sell it), which prevents the build up of white crystals that can lead to injector blockage.

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
A bit more to the story
Picked up the car and it was pointed out that urea was on the tail pipe
Also That code p20e8 indicated a faulty injector but also a paragraph that there could be a pressure fault, the service desk said it would have to be a new tank if that's the case surely they must see this a lot
You know it's gonna be a new tank

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
If you're referring to customer service at head office, they'll refer you to a dealer first - so you'll have to have all the history and the dates ready if you're after some contribution, including servicing history and that servicing was carried out to the correct standard at the correct intervals.
If you can't get anywhere with the dealer after stating you would like some contribution towards the tank costs, then try at Citroen HQ, so you can tell them you've already been on that treadmill.

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
Cool ...all servicing etc done by Citroen dealer ....do I just straight out ask them first about it or hit hq first ? I'd imagine they would be looking at minimal contribution from the get go

They'll insist a diagnostic is conducted at the dealership first to confirm the situation.
Have a read of this rant as it highlights one owner's issue with his Cactus. It has the sequence of events and the contact numbers, so may be worth a read first:

Re: C4 ad blue/emissions fault/service light
**update**
Rang the garage and he's quoted me all in 1,700 for a new tank
The blood was boiling
he said it's not the first or the last he's had to do as it's down to the adblue system across the board.
I quoted him from my last service at Christmas when the car was within milage and warranty when the lights went on that "no faults were detected on the system"only historic faults, he said there's no point on himself approaching Citroen to get anything on it
I rang hq regardless went through everything and the usual it's out of warranty, maybe the dealer will issue repair out of good will but no guarantees..... They took my details and will contact me if anything can be done

Well you did everything you could - some appear to have had good will within this period - others not.
