Good evening everyone,
Well.. Got a bit of a rattle over here.. My 2007 C4, with it's good EGS gearbox, just cranked in the garage with 1st gear on.. So i'm not moving it anywhere by myself.
Considering i need to get it to a workshop for expectedly fix, does anyone have any clue if the gearboxes have anything to unlock the clutch so it can be safely towed?
For what i know, some other brands.. like bmw and mercedes have some sort of "backup" so the gearbox can be "unblocked"... But can't find anything about this subject over these semi-auto egs from Citroen.
Kind regards,
Marco

Re: Citroen C4 with EGS Gearbox - How to Tow it?
In these circumstances where it won't go into neutral after following all the notes in the owner's manual, your option is to have it towed off ground on a flat bed truck specifically for these types of situation. Just make sure you tell your recovery company of this so they can send the correct vehicle.

Re: Citroen C4 with EGS Gearbox - How to Tow it?
The EGS is essentially an automated manual transmission with a robotized clutch, rather than a conventional torque-converter automatic. Because of this, it unfortunately does not feature a simple mechanical bypass lever in the cabin.
The good news is that because it operates like a manual gearbox, it can safely be towed with all four wheels on the ground without causing lubrication issues, provided you can get it into Neutral (N). According to the official Citroën handbook, flat-towing is permitted if the gearbox is in N, the steering is unlocked, the parking brake is released, an approved towbar is used, and it is towed slowly for a short distance.
Since your car is currently stuck in 1st gear, you must get it into Neutral before flat-towing. Here are your options:
• Electrical reset: The system requires sufficient electrical power to shift. Attach a strong booster pack, turn the ignition on, press the brake pedal firmly, and attempt to shift to Neutral (N).
• Mechanical intervention: To physically force the gearbox into neutral without electrical assistance, a mechanic must access the actuator under the vehicle to manually align the selector forks back into the neutral position.
• Alternative transport: If the transmission remains locked in first gear, the vehicle absolutely cannot be flat-towed. The recovery service must lift the front wheels off the ground.
