Ds3 heater position motors help

Unread post by Mbpdl2009 »

Hi all I have a 2012 Ds3 hdi .
Yea heater blower position motors not working. Have swapped control panel and all motors and replaced heater box complete from another car (as diagnosed by Citroen dealership quoted £2600 to replace and probably wouldn’t have worked ) still no motors change position. Hot and cold works perfectly fine and blower motor work just can’t change the position? Hopefully someone has an idea I have swapped all parts with an identical car and all fully working…

I can only surmise that either the replacement unit was also faulty or there is another issue with the climate control ECU panel or the internal gearing of the flap operation.

What you have to bear in mind is that there are (depending on whether you have Single or Dual Zone climate for your trim level) motors for the air mixing and air distribution.

The motors themselves rarely fail. But what does happen is the plastic gearing from the motor spindle is attached to another plastic gear lever that operates the actual flaps. Over time, the plastic gearing attached to the motor gear can wear and strip the teeth. So this means the motor still operates, but is just turning. If not there, then the problem can be internal, where the lever operates the flaps inside can be broken or have the same problem.

I know they sell the micro motor pinion kits separately to repair these, so maybe worth checking again.

Ok, so I'm just curious as to how you checked the actual flap operation on the donor unit, as unlikely to be able to see this operate internally and as said the motor will operate as normal?

The motor cycles on doner car you can watch it work in drivers foot well and it changes where the air comes out ie windshield vent/ dash bens or vent for floor . The bad car wont cycle on any vents

The only thing I can see regarding resetting anything relates to forcing the setting of the air inlet reduction geared motor, for which you need to carry out the following operations:
  • Switch on the ignition
  • Press the passenger compartment air recirculation control
  • Wait for 5 seconds
  • Press the passenger compartment air recirculation control

Thanks I gave that a go and still same no movement on the position motor, I am looking now to sack off the motors and replace the heater box with a manual heater box with knobs and cables as I have discovered that both types are fitted with same fittings and only one multplug with a live and earth in the same plug no other attachment to car just one plug hopefully will be last thing I can do to make it work shame it’s dash out again

Be aware that some components like the evaporator housing are different depending on single or automatic air conditioning and also different based on build date. You'll also need to reconfigure the Climate system in the BSI depending on what you are doing.
